Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Tips for first home buyers 3Aug 12, 2019 5:54 pm Re NBN: Your area may be FTTN (Fibre to the Node), but your builder like mine may quote FTTP (to the premises with fibre) as that is more costly. FTTN means running a P20 conduit ($6 for 6 m) plus a draw wire to later pull in twisted pair from pit to house, all cheap stuff. Quote: $1,100 for 30m??? Rubbish Re: Tips for first home buyers 4Aug 12, 2019 7:31 pm and check out things you forgot https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=5823 Re: Tips for first home buyers 6Aug 14, 2019 9:09 am The HIA (Housing Industry Association) contract at least here in WA is NOT a fixed price contract, as it will always contain PS (Provisional Sums), which the builder can exceed billy-ho. Some builders are not HIA members, they may be MBA members with different contract. One builder, who is neither, wants $5,000 and 10% on slab down, which suits me as I do not wish to prepay anything I cannot see, but that builder has a bad reputation. Look at productreview.com.au for reviews for that builder and judge how many five star ratings vs one star there are. Make sure they have indemnity insurance, so if they go broke, you are covered. You are paying $1,000 for it. May have in the contract to pay the progress payments only after fixing all defects found by YOUR private building inspector. Re: Tips for first home buyers 9Aug 14, 2019 5:04 pm Some builders also fund some review websites and builders rewarding customers for positive reviews is certainly not unheard of either. 3in1 Supadiverta. One builder gives a $50 Bunnings voucher and may only list positive ones on their glossy pamphlets, but it would be up to you then still post it on productreview or other sites. Re: Tips for first home buyers 11Aug 15, 2019 8:21 am FYI It’s possible for companies to buy positive reviews https://www.reviewtrackers.com/buy-google-reviews/ Purchase Verification could be easily falsified by anyone Re: Tips for first home buyers 12Aug 15, 2019 8:43 am aussieta have found many sites where you cannot leave negative feedback Even on this site, the words that are most commonly used to describe anything relating to building as "bad" are blacklisted words, even though they're not rude. Try posting something which is described as being like an example of the American car company, Dodge, except without the e & with a y on the end … you cain't!
