What questions to ask? 135Feb 11, 2019 5:42 pm Cabinet boxes are typically built of plywood or particleboard. The strongest cabinets have full plywood sides and backs to stay square during delivery and installation, handle the weight of heavy countertops, and resist damage from moisture.Particleboard is a less expensive alternative. Question to ask : - What materials do you use when making cabinets - How do you assemble the cabinets? - What finishes will be used and where will the finishes be applied? - How will the slide out shelves and drawers be constructed? - What kind of hardware will you use? - What material will be used to construct the doors and what style will they be? - Are you willing to provide the shop drawings before you being constructing the cabinets? - What accessories will be included behind the doors? - How long will the entire job take? - Does the cabinet maker also do the installation? Hope this information will helpful. Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 136Feb 12, 2019 6:48 am ardesign Cabinet boxes are typically built of plywood or particleboard. The strongest cabinets have full plywood sides and backs to stay square during delivery and installation, handle the weight of heavy countertops, and resist damage from moisture.Particleboard is a less expensive alternative. There are some good questions to ask there BUT, cabinet boxes in Australia are NOT typically built out of plywood. I agree plywood is a lot stronger than particle board but it is also a lot more expensive. 16mm White HMR Melamine is more than strong enough to support stone bench tops. The week link in most kitchens is the cheap nasty plastic legs the cabinets are sat on. Proper ladder style kickboards should support the cabinets. Suggesting plywood is a typical material used will only result in a person taking your advice getting quotes back with very high prices. Some hardwood types, such as hickory or maple, will resist scratching and denting more than softwood species like walnut and mahogany. Re: What makes cabinets good quality? What questions to ask? 139Nov 08, 2023 6:11 pm sure, diving into the world of kitchen quotes can be pretty wavy 😅. good quality in cabinets usually comes down to the materials and construction. with your choice of Blum tandembox and soft motion, you're on the right track because they're like the VIP in the hardware game. for high gloss vinyl wrap, just make sure it's not too thin or it'll be like a cheap umbrella in a storm – won't hold up.when talking to cabinet makers, be like a detective 🕵️♂️. ask 'em about the wood – is it solid or some composite stuff? ply is stronger than particle board and won’t sag over time like a tired mattress. joinery is another clue – dovetail joints are like the knots in a sailor's rope, super strong. for the back panel, it's gotta be thick enough to not tap dance when you knock on it. thin backs are a no-go as they'll make your cabinets do the wobble. don’t be shy to ask for samples or previous work snaps. see if they offer any guarantees or warranties, it shows they're ready to stand by their work like a proud parent at a school play. compare quotes but remember, the cheapest can sometimes cost more in the drama it brings later. hope this helps you ride the wave without wiping out on your kitchen quest! 🏄♀️👩🍳 and hey, sometimes splashing a bit more at the start can save bucks down the road. good luck!
