Laminate is a very strong flooring, but you need to watch excess use of water and NO steam mopes. If you put felt pads under all your furniture that should avoid quite a few scratches. Boards can be replaced if needed. The same with timber! Seriously... if you want a no problem floor for your family, look at vinyl planks from Karndean. I highly recommend them, they come in many colours. However we have an uncooperative kitchen guys who do not want to return to site for installing kickers after laying the laminate floorboards. I hate scotia beading. I may try and induce the kitchen cabinet guys to come back and install the kickers to avoid Scotia, however the Island waterfalls may be an issue. Is there anything the stone mason can do for the waterfall installation to avoid floor scotia beading? Or Is there any other product that looks better that scotia around the waterfall? Like a metal strip or something that looks better than scotia around the waterfall? Please advise. Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 644Feb 05, 2018 5:12 pm So that would be Michelle??? I saw one installer use a silver metal trim around a waterfall once, looked smick! Have a talk to an installer who has been laying for quite a while they might know which silver trim can be used. Unfortunately.... you are stuck with Scotia otherwise. Your stone mason needs to leave the bottom alone in case it cracks with the weight of the top. Its a very tricky thing floating floor. Good luck. The stone is very heavy....what can be an issue is the clip system giving away from the weight on top. But the oaks have certainly got my attention in the last couple of years in the engineered oaks. Below are 4 new colours to Choices Flooring from Embelton. You can run all over these guys with your high heels, it will dent and scratch and still look fantastic.... like an old church floor! No one likes Scotia around their stone. I found this photo and know that this can be done, you just need to find the right installer to help you with this problem. Good luck.... press on, and don't settle for less. The house upstairs is basically a single story setup but will be a chipboard subfloor over strip footings. I'm wondering what my flooring options might be as it is essentially the same as having the whole house on the second floor. All the display homes I've been into only carpet upstairs except for the wet areas so I'm guessing there is some reason for that. I'd like hard flooring throughout the house, carpet in the bedrooms and tiled wet areas. What will sound and feel good? What should I avoid? Can I avoid running Quad around all of my skirts? Thanks! I'd like hard flooring throughout the house, carpet in the bedrooms and tiled wet areas. There is no reason why you can't have hard flooring as your down stairs area is not a main living space therefore the drum, as we call it, will not affect anyone while walking around. What will sound and feel good? Usually carpet...personal choice. What should I avoid? Maybe Bamboo at the moment till it gets itself sorted. Can I avoid running Quad around all of my skirts? Yes...you leave your skirting's off until the flooring is laid then the skirts go on. No Scotia Thanks! My pleasure. That makes sense. I’m thinking I might go laminated boards in most areas then with carpet it the bedrooms and rear rumpus room. Will gluing the boards down give a better feel? Sound more solid? Or does it make no difference to floating them? Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 653Feb 19, 2018 8:39 am Pretty sure you can't glue laminates down, only the timbers and oaks can be glued down and only if that company says they can. Upgrade your underlay....it will help a bit with the sound. Do you have any feedback about this product http://www.wildoakfloors.com.au/products/lyon/ Cheers.. Don't know of them, but that's a nice oak flooring, thick as well!! Looks like it will need re-oiling? You might want to check on that and how many times that is required. Looks hot to me!! Yay! Well I went with laminate floating floors throughout the main living area. How sensitive are they to water damage? I feel like I made a mistake getting them. If I wash my hands in the kitchen and a small drip gets on the floor I quickly rush to pick it up. When people say pick up spills immediately does that mean tiny drops or large amounts of liquid? My husband tells me to relax and companies wouldn’t sell laminate if they were that sensitive. Also how do I clean them? What’s the best product to use? I am looking to do a herringbone feature room and standard with a larger width maybe 190. Can't find many engineered boards that do prefinshed in both sizes. Keen to hear your thoughts.
