Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 24, 2017 3:24 pm Would love to hear from anyone who's either built or been quoted for builds on especially high-performance homes i.e. 8+ star or passivhaus standard. Including things like triple glazing, ERV/HRVs. I can't find a lot of info but the below domain.com.au article from Canberra quotes a figure of around $3000/sqm which sound similar to a suggestion I was told. I assume that's total area though, including outdoors. This is also assuming a top-grade workmanship priced in. https://www.domain.com.au/news/building ... 21-gvmup9/ Re: Typical cost per sqm for high-performance/passivhaus hom 2Oct 25, 2017 5:37 pm Hi Taththi, I'm currently building to passive house standard, and having done some sums, I come out a little less (but not by much) than $3000 per Sq metre. This includes the ERV and double glazing with uPVC frames and living areas with rendered strawbale walls. I'm not planning, at this stage, to get the build certified as a passive house, mostly due to the cost of doing so. Are you building it yourself or through a fixed-price quote builder? Re: Typical cost per sqm for high-performance/passivhaus hom 4Oct 26, 2017 12:18 pm I wouldn't exactly call it a"fixed price contract", but a builder is building the house. How did your build go? I am looking at building a thermally efficient, 'sealed' house and aiming for a passivhaus standard. I'm in the design phase now and will be working with a builder who is happy to problem solve, but hasn't built a passivhaus before. Had your builder built a passivhaus before? Were there any problems encountered, any tips you can offer? Where did you build? Did you build with suspended ceilings? And what thickness was your framing for wall insulation? Many thanks Re: Typical cost per sqm for high-performance/passivhaus hom 7Sep 14, 2020 2:15 am Passivhaus will be nearly impossible to achieve with standard timber frame construction. It will be extremely hard to seal the timber framed house completely as due to moisture and temperature changes as well as house settlement, timber frame will still be having certain degree of movement and therefore will still be creating air gaps. If your builder never built passivhaus and (probably) has no idea what it involves, you better look for the custom builder with experience. Re: Typical cost per sqm for high-performance/passivhaus hom 8Sep 14, 2020 8:47 am I built a solar passive house. The inside walls are brick to store the heat overnight and the exterior walls are insulated timber frame to minimize heat loss/gain. The eaves overhang was calculated to provide shading during summer but still allow solar heat gain during winter.
