Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 22Jul 29, 2017 7:23 pm I can share roughly what our costs have been but it's probably not particularly helpful for your estimations because everyone has different requirements. Our allowance in the preliminary contract was $35k as we expected to have to upgrade to a H2 slab as it's common for the area we are building. In our contract our site cut was about $7k, but I'd consider our block not too bad for fall across the site. Some people in our region pay $25-35k just for site cuts because it's quite hilly. The H2 slab upgrade was about $16k for us which was about what we were expecting. Thankfully we already knew we'd be paying for the slab upgrade and had budgeted it in from the start. Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 23Jul 31, 2017 2:07 pm We went away for a week and were very happy to see the progress on our house! We knew the slab had been done as we'd received the invoice but didn't expect to see any framing up yet so it was a nice surprise. Met our site supervisor today on site and he's hoping for the frame to be completed by the end of the week and then roof completed by the end of next week. So now we're just hoping for good weather. Definitely the most useful part of the house while moving hehehe Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 26Aug 06, 2017 3:57 pm Haha, definitely! The extra spot will end up being hubby's workshop. I'd love to get the epoxy finish in there like you've got but we'll have to see how far our funds will stretch once the build is finished. Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 27Aug 12, 2017 2:09 pm Went for our regular Saturday morning drive by to check house progress and were very surprised to see about 8 tradies working away on our roof! House is coming along very nicely, frame is complete, windows to ground floor are installed and when we drove back after having some lunch the roof was all tiled and pointed. We chose the Boral Striata roof tiles in Charcoal Grey which I hadn't seen on any houses in real life yet, happy to say they look fantastic. Wasn't a great day to get photos so hopefully I'll have some to post next weekend. Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 31Aug 14, 2017 10:33 am Definitely all these little changes that add character to the house! Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 34Aug 17, 2017 9:43 pm Progress is slow this week with the rain but had our tile appointment today and made a few changes to our original plans. We are only having Metricon do the tiling for our wet areas, then we are having vinyl planks for our entry and main living areas and carpet for the rest after handover. We picked the Ice Pietra Pearl Gloss in 600x600 for our floor tiles. Upstairs in our ensuite and bathroom we are continuing these as wall tiles to half-height of the walls. In the powder room we have chosen the Anthology Grange which is a bit like a pressed metal style tile in a white gloss finish just as a feature wall up to ceiling height above the vanity. We are having the Carrara Bianco Herringbone mosaic and using a charcoal grey grout to outline them since we have the dark Piatra Grey benches. Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 38Sep 01, 2017 9:12 pm Thanks! Nothing much to report on the house progress unfortunately. Hubby spoke to our SS earlier this week and sounds like they are having some issues with the design and the installation of the box gutter. Looks like all our plumbing, ducts and electrical have all been done over these last two weeks but everything else is held up because of the gutter issue and our handrail having to stay up because of it. Anyone else had box gutter issues? Hoping it's all sorted next week and the house can get wrapped! Re: Metricon Trentham Build - The Baby Bordeaux 39Sep 16, 2017 4:26 pm So over the last week the house has been wrapped, Hebel has started and top floor windows are installed. Pretty happy with how much has been done considering how much rain we’ve had. We are still waiting on the gutter problem to be resolved, think we are waiting on a custom rainhead to be made up but at least it’s not holding everything up at the moment. We are so happy with our choice of arched windows on the top floor although we will have to talk to our SS about fixing them as they are meant to have glazing bars to match the bottom story windows. Plaster has all been delivered and sitting in the house so hopefully that will be starting soon too. Here’s some new pics!
