Browse Forums Building A New House Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1642Jul 11, 2017 9:01 pm Thanks all Yes, very excited!!! Although funnily enough I'm probably going to be the delay now, as I can't get much time off. Whoooooo!!! Can't wait to see the appliances go in.. and CARPETS!! I'm so unsure about my carpet choice. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1644Jul 12, 2017 4:30 pm Big day today. Got myself some home and content insurance and sent final invoice to the bank. gonna go with a cheque. Spoke to builders receptionist...he will call me Monday with PCI date. Im okay to wait as I cant meet them this week anyways...nearly there!! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1646Jul 12, 2017 5:57 pm Can't come soon enough. Got home today and dad told me 'found your kitten half way up the road today, twice!!' SHES NOT SUPPOSE TO GO OUTSIDE ;-; I'm terrified she's going to go missing or something before I can get her to the new house but nothing I can do, my dad isn't working so he's home all day with her and he let's her out, doesn't listen to me when I say 'DONT DO THAT'. *stress* She's just so active right now and I can't safely contain her... plus the damn dogs keep going into my room and eating all the expensive cat food I put out for her!! Desperately hoping to have keys by August 4th at the absolute latest.. so 3 weeks from next week. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1647Jul 12, 2017 6:23 pm Yay!! Finally the wait is nearly over . Who did you go with for home insurance? I need to start thinking about those sort of things. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1648Jul 12, 2017 6:33 pm I went with Budget Direct, I have my car insurance with them. But they were really good on the phone. I did an online quote first to get the discount, then rang them and we went through it to make sure I understood/was happy with everything I put in there. They had the certificate of insurance to me while I was on the phone (via email) so I could send it straight to the bank Pricewise I think they are pretty good, and I used their estimator to work out costs.. My house is insured for $430k PP Given that it cost me $180k + $20k for variations + landscaping/blinds = $250k?? But that's what they recommended so decided to go with it. I locked in my quote in 2014, so I know to build with like Carlisle NOW was going to be like $220k... plus if something did happen, I'd actually be doing KDR, so might need to demolish.. and such. I also got the optional flood cover.. I will probably NEVER need it, but I just feel better having it and for $60 a year... its worth my POM. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1649Jul 13, 2017 1:33 pm CONGRATS!!! I am so happy for you Dawn! Bring the PCI and keys... Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1651Jul 14, 2017 7:02 pm Got a quote for screen doors today from Wynstan. Was a bit more expensive then I was expecting. Approx $1000 for the back sliding door and $950 for the front door. That was for CrimSafe doors. So I might try some more quotes first. Also got a notice to fence the back ;-; I sent the neighbor a notice.. (well fencing company was suppose to!!) .. and they only want to fence 3/4 of my back fence, where I want to fence the entire bit *grumpy* so now have to sort that out somehow. I think I'm going down to the house tomorrow D See what sort of progress we had this week, and hopefully get some better photos of the facade. We used security blinds and doors for our front door and they were reasonably priced. If the notice you received is just for that neighbours share call the company and request that they do the remainder of your fence at the same time as if you only do 3/4 now it will be almost impossible to get anyone to do a couple of meters! Good luck thus weekend! Hopefully all done and ready for PCI for you! Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1653Jul 14, 2017 7:32 pm Ooh, might try them then. Yeah, I will call them, but I'm annoyed cause I've had a fence company engaged for weeks, and as far as I know the neighbor just didn't respond to them... but now they are nearly finished, they got their own quotes!! Whoever does my back fence, has to do the lot or I'm not paying for it! Yaya, thanks. So excited for PCI D Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1654Jul 14, 2017 9:11 pm Saturday the 22nd of July will be 3 years exactly since I purchased my block of land. Bizarre. I can't wait till Monday!!! I want my dates. I'm thinking PCI sometime next week Wed, Thurs or Fri. Then hopefully will be able to do handover either Friday the 28th or the 4th. Plan is to get keys on the Friday and maybe do a clean, then move everything on the Saturday.. and then move the pets and myself in for good on the Sunday. *fingers crossed* Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1655Jul 14, 2017 9:17 pm So close. Three years is a long time. But your nearly there. Its been a nearly a year when I first visited the display homes in Ballarat when I was thinking about building. Its a long process. Thinking about it, deciding to build, saving deposit, finding land. We wanted some rural acerage site but couldn't find any that didn't have some sort of issue and we wanted to start building fairly soon so brought in an estate in Ballarat. We still continue to look for some rural land. Just didn't want the prices to start rising because of the extra First Home Buyers grant money been made available in Regional Victoria. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1656Jul 15, 2017 9:08 am It takes a very long time to go from 'I think I might build a house' to 'moving into new house'. But nearly there!! I keep telling everyone 2-3weeks!! I'm going to see the house today *dancedance* curious to see what they did this week. REALLY hoping carpets are in as I want to see if I made a good choice on colour... and hoping all the external works are done, fencing, render, concreting... and REALLY hoping the dirt in the backyard has been removed so I can put my back fence up ASAP before I move in. Eeeee!!! *dance* I'm so ridiculously excited to see it. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1658Jul 15, 2017 12:27 pm *happychickendance* Went to the house. Thankfully no one was there, so could have a good look around today. I had intended to do a really thorough check of the house, but I was too nervous about being there!!! So have to wait for PCI to really go through it all carefully. I did get lucky though the laundry door was open, so managed to get an inside peak. Plus they builder has put little blue dots EVERYWHERE. So looks like they are across most of the issues. Only major issues I'm concerned about is the bench/cabinetry around the dishwasher, its a bit average... will put pictures up shortly and the whole place just needs a major clean! Overall its looking really good!! I think they might only need one week after PCI to do handover, hoping anyways!!! Almost everything is done D Concreting was done, carpets are in!! The back yard has been cleared, so fence can finally go up D and all the door handles, toilet roll holders, etc have been done too. Very few things left, and most will probably be done at handover anyways. Left to do list Internal - HWS - Appliances - Paint wardrobe doors - Split system (outside bit only) - Alarm system (waiting on variation) External - Render of house - Levelling/site clean Defects - holes in wall, painting, cabinetry, etc. Re: {Dawn} SE Melb Build - 41 weeks out of 27 1659Jul 15, 2017 12:36 pm Waiting for photos Did you like the carpet? I know you've been waiting ages to see the carpet. That list seems very doable for your timeframe so excited for you!!!
