Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14273Jun 22, 2017 9:38 am Well, had our electrical appointment last week and the total price has increased by 36k from the original quote. This includes around 26k for upgrades to the kitchen, bathrooms etc. The electricals gets a bit pricey if you start adding things like extra tv points, lights, data and fox terminals. One light baton and double power point per room is not enough IMO. And now to top it all off our local council in their wisdom has asked for a bush fire risk report when originally we were told we didn't have to. This will no doubt add another 5k odd for upgrades to steel mesh screens, doors etc. Will be glad when plans are out of council and we start the building process. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14274Jun 22, 2017 9:42 am sandrandross Thanks for the reply and your thoughts on the wall wrap. We checked it out and came to the same conclusion that we dont need it here. We spent the day driving around looking at roof pitches because we were concerned that the 26 deg might be too high for our house as its not very wide. We have decided to go with it even though Im not 100% sure.Everyone tells me it will look better and everyone cant be wrong can they? Yes I thought sarking to the exterior walls was a standard requirement in the Hastings but it's not. The 26 deg pitch roof is excellent IMO. Nothing worse than looking at housed which have a low pitch almost flat looking roof, it looks cheap and nasty. It definitely suits our County Pavilion facade of our Bronte Grand Manor. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14275Jun 24, 2017 8:36 pm Lack of promotions... we are thinking of Building with MJH again but the lack of promotions is pretty disappointing compared to other builders? What promos have others got? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14276Jun 26, 2017 12:04 pm jcrabbitoh wait till you get the engineering report and they add extra piers and or screws and charge more , the costs keep coming and the customer service keeps decreasing. When you question it they get hostile - not what we expected. And why does each variation cost us $1000 which rolls off their tongue but when they make huge errors that is sheer luck we picked up we dont get $1000 credit for their error and change that ends up costing more - no apology Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14277Jun 27, 2017 9:24 am Well, I hope not because we budgeted for a certain amount and price. Not to jump by 50k. We are expecting to get a reduction for our piering because they allowed for 90mtrs of piers when we should not be using anywhere near that being a level block without fill. I will be totally annoyed if they not only pass on savings to us but worse still go up. Not the way to do it IMO. You should be given a quote and that's it, not increase it at every stage. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14278Jun 27, 2017 11:50 am Correct we were quoted 50 lineal metres and told should be ample for the block but because it goes over 80 , they are saying 90 now , their engineers immediately go to screw piers not concrete as they are easier to install and can take load bearing straight away. All this after contract signing. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14279Jun 27, 2017 1:40 pm Hi Guys, I am looking for excess soil removal from my block. Can anyone help with contact details of someone who can take away the soil. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14280Jun 27, 2017 2:22 pm seaside retreat Correct we were quoted 50 lineal metres and told should be ample for the block but because it goes over 80 , they are saying 90 now , their engineers immediately go to screw piers not concrete as they are easier to install and can take load bearing straight away. All this after contract signing. Well, I hope that is not the case for us because we have no borrowed the money to cover more excess expenditure. Can I ask you where about's are you building with MJH? Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
