Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 30, 2017 5:40 am Hi I live in the southern part of Sydney, about a year ago I moved into a home that was 5 yrs old, the home is built with Hebel Blocks and it is "rendered" I have no idea what the render is made from but it looks like cement render in appearance. A small part of the render has come apart from the blocks and is flaking off. I need to get this repaired but cannot get any information on how. Does anyone here know of a builder/renderer, near my area, who has experience with Hebel, if so can you please give me contact details. Thanks and regards savey Re: Repairing render on a Hebel Block wall 2Mar 30, 2017 6:03 am Generally it would be an acrilic render or texture cote, but normally that product will out last standard sand and cement render, so it seams strange you have this issue after 5 years. Try Fredd from Fredd's Painting on 0422 343 194 He does render, texture and paint, and maybe able to assist. Good luck! I think it is failing because of inferior surface preparation of the Hebel surface. regards savey Re: Repairing render on a Hebel Block wall 4Mar 30, 2017 7:58 am Hi jdlx There are a number of issues with aerated building blocks you need to put up photos. In which case I'd guess and say moisture is building up behind the render/acrylic Is the sand/lime render behind the acrylic Powdery/Flakey? I do not know if it a cavity wall, I do not think so but I am guessing, I cannot see weep holes. In which case I'd guess and say moisture is building up behind the render/acrylic Is the sand/lime render behind the acrylic Powdery/Flakey? Yes it is, and the render is de-laminating in the general area. Hi Berek you wrote. Maybe a whipper snipper strike? We noticed the damage a while after we moved in although it was a lot less then, it was covered by grass, we put it on the list of things to do but we recently had a gardener mow the lawns when we were away for a while and he did most of the damage with his whipper snipper, but that was only adding to the problem in that area, the actual render is very tough and the initial damage, if done by a whipper snipper it would have to have been one with metal line. Sounds like I am in trouble. regards savey 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6862 Since you are in the design stage then I would direct your questions, in writing of course, to your designer.
