Has anyone taken MJH up on their free Hebel offer? if so what did they think? I am tossing up between brick or hebel.

Hi Mate,

At the time of signing on we paid $1k extra for the whole house in Hebel, to be honest they guys from CSR Hebel did a fantastic job. Hebel has great sound and thermal insulation properties and is very easy to work with, the entire house was hebel cladded, rendered and painted in only a few days.

We were originally going to go brick with bag and paint to the whole house but decided on hebel, its not a typical render either so its "maintenance" is unlike traditional rendered brick or board walls.

I recommend it.

Thanks for your reply Andrew.. It does make it easier to go hebel as we wont need to choose brick colours and knowing us we will want the bricks that are not part of the basic package.

We have payed our $3000 deposit and have 6 weeks to make a decision on Hebel or Brick.. this is due to they need to know for construction and drafting preparation as they differ. At colours you would be wanting to pick your colour of render or style of brick.

Same price as the hebel is a free offer part of the enclusions.. saying that if we choose a brick outside the builder range we will pay the difference.. there is a fair few options though in the buikders range which u can see on austral bricks site

The hebel houses go up a lot quicker and looks fabulous - I was tossing up this option and wish I went that avenue. In regards to when you select it, it need to be done prior to colours as if hebel is selected your plan may have to be redrawn. Definetly worth considering if you like the rendered look with out the price tag.

Hi its part of the allure upgrade package!! You get soundprooging to 3 rooms, full rendered finisb by csr hebel, upgraded staircase plus other stuff..

Hebel is so much easier to work with and brickies are so busy at the moment. Im sure you might be able to get them to do it for the same price. Im not sure of actual cost but im sure the labour of installing hebel is much much cheaper than bricks.

I have a little question for anyone with the wooden posts and exposed beams on their porch/facade. Are the posts attached to the beam above with screws to the front? or at the screws hiding at the back of the posts? Ive attached picture - its just seems a little rough compared with having a smooth beam showing at the front (which is what it looks like in other peoples photos). At the least the screws will need to be countersunk a little more. Maybe it gets hidden with putty and stained? Attached a piccie here - would appreciate any feedback.

Hi SMIT,

Our Merbau posts are exposed but they were checked out and fixed straight into the steel frame header. Whereas yours has a timber header. Are the posts supporting your roof in your alfresco also timber and then hebel cladded or are they steel?

Has anyone had their Alfresco doors recessed to the slab?

I am tiling the floor after handover and worried that I wouldn't have enough allowance to install the Porcelain Tiles (1200mm x 600mm x 12mm Tickness) with recessed alfresco doors. Tilers advise that they require atleast 30-35mm for large format tiles as they are required to screed the concrete floor to achieve leveling and avoid cracking of the Tiles.

Porcelain Tiles = 12mm
Glue = 4mm
Screeding = Atleast 15-20mm

Require atleast 35mm with screeding.

Has anyone installed large format tiles without screeding??

I think I only have an allowance of 20mm with recessed alfresco doors.

We also are getting the tracks recessed into the slab. But we are getting MJH to do the tiling. I'll see what I can find out about the tolerances.

Our alfresco door has been recessed around 30mm. This was done when the slab was poured. When we tile our alfresco a screed will be applied and then the tile finish will be flush with the top of the door track. As we had a vinyl floor laid internally we have ended up with about a 15mm bump.

Hello All,
We are going with Hebel.
It will cost us $2500. We are building an acreage single level house.
We chose at the very beginning as we wanted a Hebel house. It has great fire retardant properties. We live in a bush fire area. It also has good energy efficiency properties that I'm looking to incorporate into my house (along with other things). Plus it looks very good.
You get to chose 3 colours on your exterior for Hebel.
Hebel requires a special type of sealing and render from normal rendering to protect it.
While labour costs are lower with Hebel as it is very quick to build with, it is a more expensive material than standard brick.
Hope this information helps.
We just had our colours appointment, and getting really excited about what our house will look like!!

Hi Everyone,

First time user of this forum. We have land waiting to be registered in the Southern Highlands NSW however we have just been told today that our land registration will be delayed by 1 year! ( Feb 2018 ) I understand it could take an additional 6 months but when they said an additional 12 months to the already 1 year we have waited, I could have died.

Anyway, we did opt to get the tender extension with McDonald Jones to 18months, which will make it to November 2017. Has anyone ever gone over their tender by a couple of months and if so what happened? Did McDonald Jones go halves with the additional costs?
