Couldnt agree more. As ive mentioned before this was supposed to be my forever home, but circumstances can change in the future and if i decide to sell at least its not a major alteration that would put off a buyer. Hubby has gone and dropped a small fortune on our media room and now we have a large window in it! Our solution was 100% block out roller blinds! They come in a special track to eliminate all light that can come through the gaps! Since we are getting roller blinds it works well for us. We didn't even know they existed but look perfect for what we are after! More expensive but in our opinion it's worth it. And if they aren't successful we are going to pay for an external roller shutter. The reason for our size was apparently due to Basix requirements and the room size. Having said that, I did see on someone's that they named their media room a "store room" and got away with a tiny window! I think it all comes down to getting creative! Don't let the large window dishearten you, we aren't! I'm looking at it for future options should we choose to change it down the track, at least we have a beautiful window in the room! And for now, we will work with what we have Thanks for that suggestion lexie! I am definitely going to look at roller blind options. I am disappointed but its not the end of the world, everything is fixable to some degree. Just depends on how much you want to spend lol. And I did see someone who called theirs a storeroom too. I think at that stage when i read it, i was already at contract stage and just though , f it theres too many minor issues. Now to decide if i want to ask the painter if he can paint the walls black as a cash job! Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens Gold Coast viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81406 We had no problems doing a cash job with the painter! Also here is a pic I found of the blind system in the tracks. It's complete black out so no light will get through! We are happy with our window now though as its up high and long ways across the wall so we can still put a lounge etc against it. They definitely haven't put the smallest window possible in there for you /quote]thats what I wanted, a long narrow window at the top! Having said that, im just going to put a roller blind in there as suggested by lexie. My screen will go on the left of that window, as i am taking a picture of the window standing in front of the cavity door so the seats will go on my right, not in front of the window. Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens Gold Coast viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81406 They tried to put a bigger one in but I was firm with the point we wanted a smaller window. I was told it wouldn't pass through council but it did! Friends that built with Coral last year have an even smaller window so I think the sales people just do whatever they feel like sometimes. Blackout blinds will be good and its lucky you can work around it. Grrrr that makes me so annoyed! With my sc lol Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens Gold Coast viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81406 Re: Coral Homes Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens 89May 30, 2016 10:48 am Lexie85 vonsta76 Lexie85 Hey Vonsta! Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens Gold Coast viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81406 Re: Coral Homes Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens 90May 30, 2016 10:52 am Sucks about your big window especially for the media room , any other room it would have been okay. In our media room we have the long thin window at the top of the room, sucks you couldn't get that when it's probably the same size room and same purpose .. I wanted a colour that we can still sit in as a lounge room if we wanted but also dark enough that as a media room it still works. Hubby wanted black but I overruled haha As for the blinds, every place I've contacted have had them as an option Im just not sure how much they promote them. We are just going with a local blinds place but they seem to be around at others. The tracks are what appealed to us with complete block out. To give you an idea, for our media room blind it's costing $550 (3m x 90cm) from memory Re: Coral Homes Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens 92May 30, 2016 11:11 am baby_blonde409 Sucks about your big window especially for the media room , any other room it would have been okay. Easily fixed! And curtains tend to be cheaper than blinds/shutters etc so think of it as money saving lol. Doesn't restrict furniture either as you can still have the curtains fall behind the lounge Lindsay & Ben (Building a Noosa 26 at Wallis Creek, Gillieston Heights) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81467&p=1524570#p1524570 Re: Coral Homes Avoca 25 in Gainsborough Greens 98May 30, 2016 11:35 am Ben+Lindsay We've made our media room window smaller (which I think was originally the same size as yours, now only 900mm high) as they wouldn't allow us to get rid of it completely... but we are planning to put full wall floor to ceiling block-out curtains along that wall so it will have that 'movie theatre' feel. But what you say is true, I do have a few options available lol. But my lounge wont be in front of the window anyway as there is a cavity door right opposite. Lounge will go on my right and projector screen to the left. I like that idea too about the floor to ceiling curtains. Its been so long since ive been to a cinema i forgot they have those lol.
