Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Quick question about our Master Plans 11Jan 23, 2009 1:43 pm Chocolate is darker, but a similar tone. I did look at it, but since we had a dark colour for garage door, spouting etc, we decided to stick to a lightler brick.
As for the decking - no way were we getting the builder to do it.... or an outside contractor for that matter. It's expensive! My husband did it himself. It took him a lot longer than a professional (and I had to put up with his bad tempered outbursts ), but it cost only about $800. Re: Quick question about our Master Plans 12Jan 23, 2009 6:41 pm kek I can't understand why the owners have chosen clear glass... Our Cambridge has clear glass each side of the front door, but we're planning on putting leaded glass (stained glass) inserts behind it. We're hoping SWMBO's dad will do it for us, it's one of his hobbies. We also have friends who recently built a Beechwood (just before they went under) on an acreage who did something similar with their front door side panels, and it looks great. Re: Quick question about our Master Plans 13Jan 23, 2009 9:59 pm Hi Kek, thanks for the link to the extra pics, your husband has done a fantastic job! it's just amazing! I think I would be able to live with the boots not getting picked up after that master piece...
I just showed my husband, who loves working with timber and who will be doing the deck on the outdoor room and he just loved it! so we might try to incorporate it to our house! I can't wait to see more pics of your house, it seems like you guys have lots of great ideas. I like the fact that the front door is a different colour on the inside to the outside, all these things to think of! Re: Quick question about our Master Plans 14Jan 24, 2009 10:41 am I am a fan of glass above the doorway. We haven't done it in our house because for some reason it didn't occur to me to talk to DH about it. He doesn't like glass on the sides though. In our last house we put in an internal door in our house at the end of the passageway leading into the main living area from the front door. When we did this because there was no door frame area we put in frosted glass above the door rather than a solid panel. I loved this. It added light to the hallway/passageway and worked beautifully. I was almost tempted to ask for the same arrangement in our new house. as we've opted for a door in the same position. Thank you so much. This has been very helpful.
