Coral Homes - Noosa 29 (Modified) - Post-Handover Review 522Nov 20, 2015 3:34 pm We have been living in the house for nearly a week now and are 95% unpacked. Settling in nicely so here's a bit of a review. Updated photos to come tomorrow of the blinds/letterbox/clothesline. Still waiting on the pro photos to come back and I will share those when I get them. After that, there's not much else to say!
The good: - Adding a door to the library instead of an open cornerless stacker. Making this room completely open to the living area would have been pointless. - Making the fridge recess deeper and wider. Lots of room for our small old fridge and should be plenty once we upgrade to a french door. - Making the pantry shallower but wider. Having long shelves at the back and short shelves at the side means everything is on display as you stand in the doorway. Our neighbour had a look and said he wished he'd gone smaller as his was way too big. - Bin drawer in the kitchen. Already worth the cost! - Solid core doors. So much more solid and substantial, cuts down on sound conduction. - Separate towel rails (one above the other rather than double in one spot). Towels dry faster. - Recessed kickboards under vanities which we then asked to be tiled. Makes it look like a floating vanity for a lot cheaper. - Nib wall between vanity and shower in main bathroom. No hard to reach gaps to clean. - Having the same colours throughout. Feels like a fancy hotel! - Increasing the garage width. Has been a godsend with unpacking and storage. - Adding shelving to every cupboard. Less hassle when unpacking. - Built-in bookcases in the library. AMAZING. - Installing termimesh prior to concrete pour so we could have a higher porch/smaller step up to front door. Worth it. - Adding a 3m linen/storage cupboard. Had to steal 600mm from the library but it was the right call. - Getting custom made blinds installed. I shudder to think how badly we would have botched up ordering online and installing ourselves. Highly recommend Franklyn. - Black fans! They look brilliant, not at all dark and oppressive like I was worried about. - Changing from white polished to black lappato floor tiles. Saved us the headache of footprints, streaks and watermarks. - Upgraded insulation. The house feels cool even on hot days. The bad: - The carpenter obviously had something against right angles because at least three corners in the house are not properly squared - Bad plaster job in the front hallway - very obviously highlighted by the wall lights. - Paint/stain overspray all over the three expensive glazed doors (entrance/pantry/library) - Ensuite shower mixer tap has been plumbed backwards. Plumber is coming to fix. - Bath leaks somewhere. Plumber is coming to fix. - SS refused our request to add a bit of extra tiling during the wet area tiling stage and tiler told us he would do it when he came back to do our main floors. But he couldn't tile behind the toilet in the main bathroom because there wasn't enough room. I'm REALLY grumpy about this one. - We should have dug a bit deeper and paid for tiles to ceiling in the ensuite and rest of the main bathroom. I still want to do this eventually. - Should have gone with 900mm towel rails instead of 600mm. - Should have kept the doors to the ensuite. It looks lovely all open but it's just. not. practical. Looking at a barn door solution for this. - Wish we had included flyscreens for the stacker/sliding doors at colour selection. We plan to upgrade to security screens but it would have been handy to have some kind of covering up front to keep the cat contained. - We didn't really need a door on our WIR. You can't see the clothes from the doorway anyway and it takes up space where the mirror could go. - Wish we had sprung for melamine shelving throughout but it was too expensive at the time. - I think we went a bit overboard on lighting, both in fittings and brightness. We could have got away with less. - Should have removed the unnecessary shower screen in main bathroom. Will ask the glass people when they come back to install the missing powder room mirror. - I wish the concretor had have taken a bit more care with the driveway. The exposure is patchy and it's rippled in places. - We messed up the niche size in ensuite shower. By the time we realised the measurement was the frame size not taking into account 40mm for plaster and tiles, we've ended up with a pretty small niche. - Should have got sarking in the roof. - The Caroma Quatro tap in the kitchen doesn't reach far enough into the sink, will probably need replacing. The same tap in the laundry doesn't sit right because it has a square base and the tub corner is round, will also need replacing. There are a few other regrets which have been well documented. Overall we are very satisfied with our new house but would not build with Coral again! Have to say the round up of your experience is very enlightening for anyone about to start. Your colour selections are absolutely beautiful - it was the way I wanted to go in our wet areas (timber) but OH got his way......he will pay Your library shelves are a master stroke! It was good to reflect on things we learned during the build process. I think it helps to focus on the good stuff, not just the kinda disappointing stuff. OHs can be like that haha. Mine insisted on the doorless ensuite... We'll see who was right. I'm stoked on the shelves, they turned out awesome Spent the morning reading your thread, will comment over there when I get to the end. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Plumbers have been back to fix the leaking bath and the backwards shower mixer in the ensuite. They gave us the choice of reversing the tap or removing bricks from the outside to replace the pipes so it would be correct. We said no thanks to that and reversed the tap. We are super happy in our house - it feels like home already. I do feel for those having troubles with Coral at the moment, but on the plus side, it does end and the build quality is quite high, so you have the finished product to look forward to. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 14971 Hi so sorry for the late reply. I already contacted them and they wouldn't tell me instead they tried to get me to talk to one of their home coordinators and I'm not… 2 5999 Is there a building permit? RU in Victoria?
