Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 5Sep 06, 2015 11:32 am Good suggestions, will try to google each colour name and ask Boral for addresses. Might be lucky and find similar combination of colours. Can you make changes up until tender? Hope it's not too late if I change my mind now... Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 6Sep 06, 2015 11:35 am By the way, we weren't asked what colour we want under the eaves... Is that just a standard white or did she forget to ask us? Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 7Sep 06, 2015 11:38 am Yeah just standard white under eaves? We changed colours on the day of tender, you can change at any time before too. We changed our roof colour and a few other things after our colour apt Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 8Sep 06, 2015 11:51 am Phew ok that's good! So if I want to change any colours, do I let the administrator know or the colour consultant at Cosham you think? Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 9Sep 06, 2015 2:25 pm The building industry isn't taking the leading in architectural visualisation. This is because of the time/cost involved and the abilities of their staff. Companies like Ikea have much higher volumes of sales around the world, and so can afford the cost of setting it up. If you're keen, you can do visualisation yourself, modelling up with 3d rendering, or there are people who do this sort of thing as a business. I've spent a fair bit of time doing 3D visualisations for our house, but at the end of the day, the most useful thing is to get around and look at already built houses, and see what you think works together. Then once you have seen what you like, you try to match it into the facade and materials that you have to choose from. The colour choices you listed seem fairly reasonable. It sounds like the gutter will match in with the roof colour, which I think is good. The mid-brown brick with white mortar can look good. To this point it's all quite safe choices. Then you get to the windows, garage door, facia, and other detailing. It can make sense to go to white here to work in with the brick mortar and make it brick/white contrast. The Evening Haze for the facia may be a good concession here, by moving a bit away from white to reign in the contrast against the roof, but also reach into the tonings of the brick. In this way the facia can be useful as a tool to try to integrate the house with the roof. You have to be careful though, not to give the impression of there being too many different main colours. I'd also be conscious of the level of contrast between the gutter and facia. I think what you have could work fine, but try to spot a house with something similar and see if you're happy with it. The other alternative is to contrast the brick against a dark colour on the facade, and go with dark windows and detailing. As long as you work to the theme, it should work either way. Then if you have any rendering you need to work out what colour that is. It's generally best to keep to three main colours, so things don't look too fragmented. Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 10Sep 06, 2015 3:36 pm That's a shame. My builder provided an interior designer, she couldn't show me what it would look like but was very helpful in suggesting colours that would work together. I also got a photo type picture of the facade to get a sort of idea. I would suggest now you have your colours, once you get an elevation drawing ask New Visuals (the link is in D@Ns post above) to do an elevation for you, then you can see how it looks and change it before you start building if you want. I've just put in my request Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 11Sep 07, 2015 12:44 pm montereyQ1 Hi everyone, We had our colour appointment at Henley this week. Wow -didn't realise how stressful and hard it would be. I thought the girls there were meant to be interior designers and be able to help us with different suggestions and how to match everything. When I asked "what would you suggest?" , all she said was "it's really a personal choice"... I thought we would be able to at least see on a computer how the façade would look like or be able to see photos what others have done and pick from that. It's really difficult to vision how it's going to look just by looking at tiny colour samples. They can't even provide addresses so you can drive by to look at different façades due to privacy of the owners. It's not like I would go and knock on their door! I'm really worried now that the colours we chose are going to look strange... They couldn't even show a picture of the façade style (Milton) just a drawn black and white one... and it's not on their website. I thought they would have had a computer program or app to be able to show you how it would look... Disappointing! Did your builder provide pictures or addresses to help choosing the façade and brick colour? Is there a thread on here where people post pics of their façade after it's built? We chose Boral Brown Terrain bricks with off white mortar, black roof tiles, monument for gutters, evening haze for fascia and surfmist for windows. What do you think? Same with the kitchen, they really need a 3D computer program so you can see what it will look like. IKEA even has a program like that... That was exactly our expectation too. I guess we can't expect much from a volume builder Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 12Sep 08, 2015 4:14 am Our color consultant at Henley was really helpful, offering a couple of selections to choose from if we were stuck for ideas. I think it must just depend who you get on the day. Perhaps you could go back for another casual visit & discuss your selections with another consultant. KDR Under the Flight Path - Dennis Family Homes (Hawkesdale) Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 13Sep 08, 2015 11:54 am Yes, it definitely depends who you get. But I still think they need more photos of different colour combinations so you can get a vision of what it will look like as it's something you can't change. I actually just found an online visualiser! Have a look at this: http://colorbond.autech.com.au/onlinevisualiser/ . You can select all the different colours for roof, gutters, fascia, garage door and the bricks. It was a great help! Re: Choosing façade style and colour for bricks etc. 14Sep 08, 2015 2:03 pm Carlisle has a visualiser on their website.. Try seeing if they have something similar to ypur facade and put your color choices there for contrast. Pretty much anyone can register i believe. I've used it and its pretty good! I was going to suggest this too. Carlisle have a great visualiser. They may not have your exact facade but just choose something similar and, if nothing else, you can see how your colours will look together.
