Got confirmation that the slab pour has now been rescheduled for the 14th of April. Which means, if it happens this time, we'll be nearly 5 weeks from commencement to slab

So frustrating!

Don't jinx yourself good positive thoughts. The 14th is good it should be dry by then. It's not normally this wet at this time of year. Oh 5 weeks is a long time your doing well being so patient

I'm trying to stay positive but I'm a terrible control freak, so when stuff happens that is in NO ONE's control I just can't handle it!

Seeing as we're not making any other progress due to rain, I spent my evening collating colours and selections on to Pinterest. Here's my Pinterest board of actual selections and purchases (not just wishes, hehe) so far:

Oh I'm hearing you on that one, it's so hard to remain patient when things are beyond our control. I did our conveyancing because I knew I couldn't handle being drip fed information

Love it, everything looks great. The freestanding cooker is awesome!!! Great grey colours through the house and cool front door colour. Love Pinterest, I've got far to many boards at the moment

Darn weather is amazing at the moment. I thought that we would have a great run once we finally get the plans and contract sorted.. but I'm starting to think this rain just isn't going away haha

We went to a couple of places for quotes today and I'm a bit confused. We were told a couple of things and I'm wondering if anyone has any insight if they're correct:

1. The lighting in the kitchen is insufficient - we're getting 11W LED downlights in the living and kitchen with a wide spread and I thought that would be enough, but we were recommended to put in another downlight over the sink.

2. We were told that under new regulations (not sure what exactly, maybe a local Gold Coast City Council rule) we're required to have a fan in the alfresco.

Anyone have any idea?

The fan out side was more to do with the energy rating for the house. I think it's supposed to try and bring people outside instead of being inside with the aircon? Ours was removed because we stated that we would supply our fans meaning the inside fans. But coral took this as we would be supplying ALL fans

Yeah apparently because the alfresco is insulated we don't need it, so that's good, I'm relieved that wasn't another gotcha.

We took away solar to get done after handover (bigger system) so they required insulation in alfresco area and a fan, also fan in master bedroom to meet the energy rating. Obviously little things like fan and insulation, solar etc all bump up the value which you need to meet.

I'm installing 2 in my Alfresco. It is nice to have the air circulating on those hot stagnant days.

Is it the building certifier that pulls the builders up on the fan to alfresco? We got our approval granted last week and it wasn't mentioned at all?? We have a 6 star energy rating without the fan to the alfresco, with full insulations and fans to all bedrooms and living areas. Maybe that's why the fan wasn't brought up??

Our certifier gave us the energy rating info so I assume it's part of that, yeah. If you have 6 star rating without it I guess you're also fine Tribe7

We where told the same thing when we had our electrical appointment, from memory its about creating a shadow over the sink when standing at it with the lights behind and nothing above. We added a pendant over the bench which fixed it.

Can you move your down lights?

The lighting guy today suggested that we add an extra downlight over the sink, for that reason yeah - the lights behind will make it hard to see what is happening in the sink. But because they're to the side and we also have the lounge lights I thought we'd be ok. And the original electrical consultant said it would be ok. So now I'm confused.

I would listen to the lighting guy from today, the last thing you want is a dark shadow over the sink. We had a similar thing in our ensuite, with 2 down lights in there but directly behind the vanities, our electrical lady called me and said I've got your variation and its crap

, the lights need to be off centered to the vanities or you will create a shadow. I was very pleased she told us as I had no idea.

Yeah at this stage we're not going to do a variation, we're just going to do a cashie with the sparky on the day. We have to pay him to install our fans and pendant anyway so hopefully putting in another down light won't be an issue. We have the same suggestion in the bathrooms - we only have the 3-in-1s in there now and the guy today suggested we at least put provisions in for above-vanity downlights. So we might put mini-gimble ones in them too.

That's really good you can get your own electricals done with plantation. It couldn't possibly be a big deal to add a extra down light to the kitchen?? Is the bathroom one a heat lamp one too? They are super bright normally. We have one in our current house and it's blinding

Yeah it is which is why I didn't think we needed extras. So I'm still not sold on that. I think we will do the extra downlight in the kitchen though. Then we know that it's enough.
