Browse Forums Building A New House Re: building in casuarina nsw 22Nov 17, 2014 7:55 pm Hi livpal5, We are finally choosing colours, tiles, carpet etc tomorrow and the house is expected to start 01 December! Finally! Just in time for xmas break... The hold up was partly council, but mostly due an extended delay in our land being registered. Nonetheless we are pleased things are underway. We have decided on gas cooktop and electric oven, we weren't surprised that we would have to utilise gas bottles, we experienced the same deal in Townsville (where we used to live). The ARC restrictions can be quite frustrating also, we had our initial plans knocked back and it also meant our patio area is not to the size we wanted, but GJ's was able to come up with a solution in the end. Hope they can work something out for you soon. Is the size/shape of your block impinging on the house plans at all? Re: building in casuarina nsw 23Nov 17, 2014 8:00 pm Welcome TraceyWayne! Great to have another person on the forum. Even though we are building with GJs we are building a fairly heavily modified build and I have enjoyed the process so far (apart from all the waiting!!). Have you been given an approximate time frame for completion of your home yet? Re: building in casuarina nsw 24Nov 17, 2014 8:12 pm Glad things are starting to move with your build. So exciting colour selections. Good luck. I think our block and house should be ok. Only worry i have is that our patio is 4.2m to back boundary so not sure how that will go down with the ARC. our plans are through and have a few tweaks and questions to ask gj so will ring them tomorrow and go through the plan. Looking at adding some more insulation etc after talking to an archtitect down here. Im still thinking about this gas bottle situation. I may go induction cooker but unsure of costs etc. Always something to think about. Just when i think i have everything sorted something else comes up. Re: building in casuarina nsw 25Nov 17, 2014 9:47 pm Yep, little things start to pop up all the time that may not have thought about previously... I recently discovered I would have to hold a fair bit of cash in reserve for window coverings too... Window coverings in general just seem to be expensive! I personally am not phased by the gas bottle situation as I have been using the same 9kg gas bottle (for the cooktop only) for the last 6 months in our current house and it has not run out yet. Any day now though...so gas cooktop is pretty inexpensive. Re: building in casuarina nsw 26Nov 18, 2014 6:33 am Wow 6 months thats longer than i thought. Forums were telling me that they last about 6 weeks. Ok well that gives me more to think about. Any idea how much they cost to replace? Let me know how colour selections go. I wouldnt mind knowing what suppliers they use so i can hopefully do a bit of research on the net. Re: building in casuarina nsw 27Nov 18, 2014 7:28 pm Hi casuarina7, We're still waiting on final drawings and engineering before council. Lucky you with a start date and having fun choosing colours! We're not in that much of a hurry but would be nice to have plans into council before Xmas. How long did the approval take? How are you going livpal, get all your questions answered from GJ? Custom build Northern NSW viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72217 Re: building in casuarina nsw 28Nov 18, 2014 8:03 pm We have emailed gj and he is getting back to us with costing for other additional items. We had an archtitect to look over plans and he has suggested we add a bit more insulation and lift the slab another 100mm so waiting for them to get back about that too. So guess we will wait another week or so to hear back. Haha Re: building in casuarina nsw 30Nov 26, 2014 4:27 pm So being my impatient self i was nagging hubby about the slow progress of prelim plans and variations. We decided to ring our sales guy. And we def have more answers now. He reckons we may have prices of variations by the end of the week and our 2nd lot plans with variations by end of next week. I dont believe it though as everytime he gives us a date we always end up waiting at least 2 weeks on top of that so not holding my breath. But least i have some answers to keep me happy for now. How is everyone else going? Re: building in casuarina nsw 31Nov 26, 2014 9:25 pm Hi livpal, Well that's some progress I guess, we're still waiting too but gives me time to look at other stuff and organize time to meet people when I get to NSW, building interstate has it's challenges as you know only to well Custom build Northern NSW viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72217 Re: building in casuarina nsw 32Dec 03, 2014 5:58 pm Hi livpal5 I hope to be building in Kingscliff/Casuarina in the coming months; still waiting for the land to settle in Seaside estate though, it's taking forever as I'm sure you have all experienced. Re: building in casuarina nsw 33Dec 03, 2014 8:03 pm Hi mp1 welcome. The waiting is the hardest thing. We were in no rush for our land to register/settle so we weren't too fussed but waiting for our plans has been tough. Trying to be patient. May i ask have u looked into builders if so who r u building with? Do you currently live in the area? Seaside is quite close to the beach isnt it? The area is no nice cant wait to move up there. Re: building in casuarina nsw 34Dec 04, 2014 2:51 pm Hi I am fairly confident we will be signing up with Clarendon in the coming weeks. They are not very big up here but are quite large in Sydney. Your building with GJ? they are doing so much work up here at the moment and they seem to build quickly which is a bonus. I am living up here so I get to go through the area and see all the progress. Send me a pm if you ever need photos etc of the area. Seaside is pretty much the development across from Miramar, we chose there thinking it would settle before Miramar; but most blocks including our's haven't. Good to see that some people up this way are using this forum because for a long time I couldn't get any info about this area from the forum. Re: building in casuarina nsw 35Dec 04, 2014 4:28 pm Oh yeah some of the clarendon homes on here look great. Good luck for settlement. Wonder what the hold up is. Im so glad there are more people on here building in casuarina. I was beginning to lose hope. Haha. thanks for the offer for photos. Might take u up on it at some stage. Make sure update us on the progress of ur build. Im guessing u wish to start building asap?! Re: building in casuarina nsw 36Dec 14, 2014 7:26 am How is everyone going with their builds? I am still waiting on my plans believe it or not. Our aim was to have them in council by Christmas but really doubting that will happen. It is so frustrating and with no communication from builder. A short email telling us what the hold up would be nice. Hope everyone has is having more progress than us. Re: building in casuarina nsw 37Dec 14, 2014 5:13 pm Hi livpal, Slow going here too We have some of the working drawings but waiting on working structurals so builder can finalize costings. Such a catch 22, need drawings for pricing, pricing for finance, approved contract for DA Communication is indeed a challenge as is timeliness, stay positive!
