Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Diamondgloss Laminate "Polar White" and acrylic edging 2Oct 16, 2014 4:26 pm The edging for polar white diamond gloss isn't actually acrylic, it's just a gloss ABS the same material that is used on polar white silk panels just 2mm instead of 1mm. What you have is exactly what you get if you ask for polar white diamond gloss tops. Having said that, I don't think the quality of the top is anything special. The corner rounding looks very poor to me. It should be nice and round, where as yours looks like they've hit it with a file or sandpaper and have made it a bit messy. The glue line is a bit thick for my liking as well. Do you know if the edging used is standard or would it incur an extra cost? I'm curious as in my contract their is a specific line item for "acrylic edges to kitchen benchtops" incurring a significant charge. Thank you. I'm curious as in my contract their is a specific line item for "acrylic edges to kitchen benchtops" incurring a significant charge. Thank you. I've just checked the availability guide for laminex and it is showing an acrylic diamond gloss edging in polar white, however the last time I enquired I was told that you just use gloss ABS edging. Your picture definitely looks like ABS. If its a solid colour all the way through then it's not acrylic. The reason acrylic costs more is because once the edging is put on (same process with acrylic or ABS) the acrylic edging has to be polished to get the gloss finish, it's actually matt when you get it. The polishing takes time to get it nice. Gloss ABS comes already done. The material cost between them all is minimal really, it's just the work to polish that adds to the cost. If it is an ABS edging (and it looks like it is) then I'd think you could question the additional cost. Whether you get anywhere would be a different question. All the best.
