Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 9953Jul 09, 2014 5:39 pm Hi Everyone, So I finally got in contact with my BC. Four months ago Porter Davis rang us and said that the developer has not approved our roof tiles so we had to pay an extra $3000. Now we are ready to build and our BC has told us that the developer has not yet approved our tiles. This seems very strange to me. Surely they do not need four months to approve this. Has this happened to anyone else. Do you think I should ring the developer and ask them when it is expected to be approved?? Re: Porter Davis homes 9954Jul 09, 2014 6:09 pm dk1ngjul1en We are going to get NBN with 25/5 Mbps. I'm thinking of buying a 10/100 base router since I don't get more than 25Mbps. This means I will not need a Gigabit Ethernet router. Only question is WAN to LAN throughput. Any advice? You'll be lucky to find a 10/100 only router these days....plus these things are cheap as chips so why skimp on it? I would just buy a 10/100/1000 router and be done with it. Also you may think 25/5 is not fast down the track and may want to upgrade to 100/50. If you think about it 25/5 is basically ADSL2 speeds......you are not taking full advantage of NBN speeds. Re: Porter Davis homes 9955Jul 09, 2014 6:23 pm CourtneyB Hi all, Just wondering from those who have already been through a build, or who have some knowledge about it, roughly how long does it take from fixing stage to move in? What is process after fixing is complete? We basically want to know a rough move in date - but not getting anything from our BC at all. I understand things might take longer than expected, but surely they can provide a rough / guesstimate at this stage of the build? Thanks! You should have been given a time line of events. It's a letter PD provides you "Procedure of Construction xxxxx Storey" I'm building a double storey home, this is basically what it says...shorten version Week 1 - Site Start Week 2 - Concrete Slab Week 3 to 5 - Frame Week 6 to 12 - Fascia / Roof / Brick / Windows / Electrical / Heating / Alarm / Ducted Vacuum / Bath Week 12 to 17 - Plastering / Stairs / Cabinetry / Doors / Architraves / Skirting Week 17 to 19 - Painting Week 19 to 20 - Tiling / Stone Benches Week 20 to 22 - Complete Electrical / plumbing / alarm / vacuum and heating systems/ door stops / mirrors / shower screen Week 22 to 24 - Final touch ups PCI Re: Porter Davis homes 9956Jul 09, 2014 7:27 pm If anyone's interesting, check out our Sitting Room table lamps... http://bendigowaldorf.blogspot.com.au/2 ... lamps.html Re: Porter Davis homes 9957Jul 10, 2014 10:01 am Hi all, I'm having my selection appointments next week and I've heard from my BC that the drawings won't be released to me until I paid the 5% deposit, is it true? They use my money to do it and I can't have it? They use my money to do it and I can't have it? Yep that's right. Well they are shown to you in your contract appointment and after you have signed it all u are then required to pay the deposit. Hi Emily, So how can we ascertain that the drawings have no error? Let's say if there's an error, then they need to redo it and we can't sign the contract on the contract appointment? Hi Emily, So how can we ascertain that the drawings have no error? Let's say if there's an error, then they need to redo it and we can't sign the contract on the contract appointment? You are given set at your contract appointment but they are not the final construction drawings (well they weren't in our case). Your construction drawings are issued a few weeks before you go to site? We picked up a few things between contract drawings and construction drawings, and they were changed and all fixed in the final construction drawings. We've also had a couple of changes since construction drawings were issued (relocation of evap cooling, change to a window)... and these have all been updated too.
