Which window dressing for this window?

Hi all, now that I've worked out how to upload photos again I'm on a roll

Who knows what sort of window dressing I should put on this window? Points to note:
- it is part of the facade, so has to look nice from the street
- it is the master bedroom
- it is a boxed bay window
- whatever we use for this window we will also use in the front lounge, which is also part of facade
- it is west facing

On the last point about being west-facing - if anyone knows of any external window covering that would look nice on a facade, to keep the afternoon sun out, please let me know! (Roller shutters are not an option here - I don't like the look of them for the front of the house.)

Internal......depends on what your style is. I love Austrian/ London blinds and think they would look beautiful in both your Bedroom and Lounge room and I also think that they would suit the facade. Or a really nice swag/tail with a block out Holland Blind underneath to pull down for night time. Roman's even - so much choice in fabric. Do you want people to see in?? Austrians can be put at different lengths. I love sheers too.....what do you love Donuts?

Oh Southies, we were looking at the same photos! I love the first one. It's my favourite. Was too tired to post any more last night. I also love the long drapes but wonder how this looks with the shorter window sill. Think the last one would look nice fitted out with nicer fabric and a blind. Great pics.

Donuts, you'll need to think of some kind of daytime privacy for both rooms - sheers, e-screen rollers maybe ?

On the inside I think it would be great to have double curtains - sheers and blockouts.

I was wondering Donuts if you could have a timber awning built for your bedroom similar to your porch verandah? But then it would be a permanent awning. Canvas are great. We had them on a previous house and work really well.

you have come up with so much more than I could have myself! I love that same one you do Paula, how do the blinds work there? They look like they just appear from the top window pane? :th:

I also think that last one you put up could work too Southies, as the window is a similar height off the floor.

H2B I like the idea of putting something similar to the verandah - which will have a piece of colorbond over it - might have to ask builder if it's possible and how much $$$

Thanks for the ideas, if anyone has more I'd love to hear them too, I won't be deciding immediately.

Donuts, the romans sit within the window frame. Don't know if you have enough depth to the architrave to allow for the installion of the batten itself.

This is the back of the roman. The roman needs to be attached to a batten which is screwed into the top of your window space. BTW the back of the roman can be lined so that all the workings don't get seen from the street.

You'll still need to have some kind of sheer for privacy for when the romans are up. Stonecutter has a point that due to the privacy issue, you;'re probably better off with 2 layers of curtains.

Love the green in Michelle's top pick.

We are having Romans in our new house in the family/meals area, stairwell and most likely the rumpus room. Ours will be installed high above the architrave so the bottom sits just under the top of the window frame but will cover the whole frame when down. You can also install them inside your window frame. I love Romans, never had them before but love the look. I love sheers too :roll:

There is a double roller blind that has suncreen fabric on one and blockout on the other. I just don't know if that would suit the style of your house? Someone else might be better giving advice on that.

Shutters look lovely but again don't know if they would suit your lounge room.

Is the rule that all facade windows should be dressed the same? I'm having sheers and drapes in our bedroom but don't necessarily want that in our study which is under our room :roll:

It certainly helps to make the front facade more uniform if all window dressings are the same.

I like the green one you put up Mich, I was thinking shutters might be a good idea (esp with the sheers - not as harsh-looking), but I'd want them to be white on the inside, and timber on the outside - which wouldn't really work

H2B how do the double rollers work? Are they on 2 separate rollers so you can just have the sunscreen fabric down on its own? Got a pic?

Might be interested in them for some of my other windows... think I really need sheers for this one - they just look so soft and romantic!

H2B I don't think it is a hard and fast rule, I certainly don't think a house with different window coverings in the facade looks odd

although knowing your love of symmetry I thought you would be on to this one :wink:

I love the idea of the sheers hanging from the ceiling down to the ground, but there is so much wall space above the window, that I think it would look silly when they are open

............. unless I never opened them??? :idea:

could that work?? I would hardly ever want to open them would I?

Oh and the other thing is, we eventually want to put a seat in there, so going down to the ground would not be an option, so going right up to the ceiling would probably not have the same impact then, would it?

Sorry I am just typing as I think here.... might have to do some more thinking.... open to more ideas too!

Now this is very interesting to me.

Am I the only one that’s see these blinds as white?

They are white….the walls are green as with the cushions on the lounge.

As I said, I find this very interesting what you have all seen. :shock:

No Mich I saw them as white, just referred to the pic as green as someone else said they liked the green in it.

But, the first time I looked at that pic, I thought there were sheers in front of the shutters, but now I see there are not. :shock:

will have to get my eyes checked.

Simone, Vanderlay has double roller blinds.

The white one is a sunscreen blind that you can see through (like sheers) & the black is full blockout. Would be able to use any colour combo though I suppose:

Matt used the sunsreen roller blind & then had block out Romans...I'll get the pic for that too....
