So, the journey finally begins for us. Got a call from our BC to introduce herself, and made appointments for Tender and Tiles so far in the next few weeks...

Enquired about drawings before our tender, and we were told that the tile appointment (our first one) will have the drawings, and that we will have the opportunity to review and make changes ahead of tender (second appointment).

From everything I've read so far, I'm expecting the tender appointment to be a long and (possibly) painful one!!

Now waiting on the electrical and Hopetoun appointments...

My advice to you is to visit Hopetoun as much as possible prior to your colour and tiles appointments

Cant say ours is going to plan at the moment...

Wish I could say yes! The tilers are there at the moment, painting mostly finished, waiting on the correct window for the kitchen to be delivered, which means that the benchtops can then be installed, which means that the tiling can be done in the kitchen. Heating and cooling all in, garage doors on, electrical fit off complete and it is starting to look like a house. So we are waiting on window, benchtops, plumbing fit off, painters, render, window surrounds, door fit offs, front porch (under the balcony) to be fitted off, new front door frame surround (the painters jimmied the front door) and our real front door ( we have a temporary one at the moment). So, we are at the fiddly bit at the end when it seems to be taking forever!

I so know what you mean by "telling the real estate agent".

Fourtunately (or unfortunately, if you look at it that way) we have sold our house and settle 17 March. Our SS still will not give us a date, but says that it should be ok for then. We really need to get in a couple of days to a week before because we need to get the floor coverings installed and then do the move and get the old house cleaned for settlement. He knows that we need to get the floor coverings installed and that they want 3 days at least to do this. So fingers crossed for before 11 March. Really going to be very difficult if we do not have the house by then as mum is disabled and I can't really ask her to sleep on the floor somewhere while we wait,

We bumped into the SS while we were peering in the window last week, and he let us have a walk though. All looking good, we did pick up a few things and orgamised to meet the tiler before he started the job so I could make sure that the features and the tiles will be laid the way we wanted. So far looking excellent, really happy with the tiles we have chosen.

Major drama at the moment is trying to get fence and driveway quotes!

I think our list is easily as long but just contains different bits...

We have had one great quote for the 150+sqm of concrete we need done after, another meeting on Saturday for another one - our fencing is done by developers but I am getting a friend who is a fencer by trade to come give us a quote for nice gates...have started buying all light fitting and bathroom fixtures (toilet roll holders etc)
We do have a date for pci at least but am not posting it as I don't want it jinxed and there is still so much to do before hand I'm not sure if it can be done in time...

yup it is - my brothers are amazing it still has to be oiled but it is fantastic!

Good to hear that you are at the stage of a PCI date, it certainly gets disheartening at this stage especially as it looks like there is still so much to do and should take longer but it is amazing what can be done. I don't blame you for not wanting to get jinxed, I would not post it either! The letter box looks great too, you must have very talented brothers. We are not having any luck so far even getting any concretors to return calls.

Good luck with your build, I watch your blog and can't wait too see tiling pics.

So the garage stay as 2440mm high regardless how high the ground floor go??

Hey Scott we increased our ceiling height to 2740mm and the garage height is higher as well. We didn't ask specifically for this.

Sound like we are at a similar stage fiddly but also exciting. We are three quarters thru the tiling. Our stone bench tops are installed now just waiting on shower screens. Good luck with everything

Yay for all of you! We are not far behind. Tiles will be delivered in just under two weeks. Supervisor thinks we handover might be end of Feb. wahoo!

Scott I think it is different for different house/ facades. Our Hoffmann has a std roof despite the downstairs being 2740 because there is a window upstairs that looks out over the garage roof. If the garage roof was any taller the window would have to be smaller if you understand what I mean.

We have had a NIGHTMARE build.. All great up to lock up and then steadily downhill.. So I have chosen to not voice the issues because it has just been horrendous in so many ways. It doesn't matter how many times you check the plans to make sure they are correct - if they are drawn with the incorrect measurements! :-O

Anyway, things have improved and we have a tentative date of 14 Feb. Not sure how close that is but apparently the tiling is all done, electrical fitout is complete etc etc. I haven't seen it since before xmas - except peering in the window - but I say to all that I have had a holiday so looking forward to getting in there....

OMG so sorry for you ajd! Yes I know what you mean by incorrect drawings. I think one problem is that you pore over them so many times that you stop seeing them, if that makes sense. We had one issue like that too, but we were able to sort it out thank god! I still don't know how I missed it. So glad that it is all on the improve and that you are over the worst. Hopefully you will soon be moved in and happy in your new home. And all the dramas will be forgotten

Since all our ground door are 2340 high, it means we have to leave the garage internal access door to be the only 2040door if not raise garage ceiling height

That might looks odd........

Hey Scott, sorry for delay, our garage ceiling is the 2740, we haven't been charged anything extra to have the garage height extended. I asked to have ALL internal doors to be the higher, they look amazing. They haven't increased the garage entry door which really annoys my eyes! The sliding pantry door or the sliding doors that we have leading out to the outside. I didn't pick it up on the plan and we were interstate when the build started so I'm stuck with it. But the extra height doors are fantastic addition and give you the wow impact

Has anyone got a photo of how the capped waste point to Alfresco looks like? We're contemplating whether we should include that in our build. We have no firm plans for an outdoor kitchen at this stage - so only requested a gas point to alfresco.

Things are coming along very nicely with our build. No complaints to make at all. Very happy with our site supervisor and his team.

Rapt with our Shaker style kitchen. Was expecting a textured finish on the cupboards, but it's all smooth - maybe satin finish??? Big Fat Bonus!!! :z:

Painting is almost finished and tiling will start on the 11th of Feb. Tiler wants to meet with us before he starts to make sure that the right colours of tiles have been delivered. Guess he's been stung before????
