Hey country lifestyle, any movement at your place? Good thing to check all upgrades as it happens and the way the windows / doors slide. Our laundry door was put in sliding right to left instead of left to right. Most things picked up early are easy to fix. Looking forward to seeing your bricks.

I really need some help please.. I am sitting here making myself ill worrying if I have done the right thing or not. I thought I would be clever and have evaporative air con installed during my build with PD. I am building the Montague21 but with my extensions it is now almost 25sq.

With this terrible hot weather we are now experiencing in Melbourne, I am really doubting that the evaporative cooler size that PD recommended will be sufficient size wise for my home. They quoted me $5k for a Brivis Promina P44 with a manual wall control.

If any of you have any knowledge about the size of the unit I would need to keep my home cool I would be very appreciative of your input.

Just like to preface this with a note that I am by no means an expert on this matter, this is purely from my own research only

From my understanding, evaporative coolers should be measured by their "air changes per hour" and not by the kW of the unit. The air changes per hour can be calculated based on the airflow (m3/hour) and then the volume of your home (would usually exclude some areas such as wet areas etc). The industry standard for evaporative air coolers is ~30 air changes per hour, that seems to be minimum that most people apply.

In your case, the hard part seems to be sourcing the airflow of your unit.....I can find references to a Brivis L43 (11 kW, 7834 m3/hour airflow). So let's assume that your unit is more powerful and puts out ~9000 m3/hour. Based on your house, let's assume your living area (exclude wet areas, pantry etc) is 120m2 and you have 2.4m height ceilings.

Therefore 9000 / (120 * 2.4) = ~31 air changes per hour which would be considered standard.

Bear in mind as well that evaporative air coolers won't be as cold as an aircond, on a 43 degree day it may still be quite warm inside the house!

I wouldn't worry about it, should be sufficient for general use on mild warm days. Plus evap wont really do much is a heat wave we will experience this week.

Fans will do wonders.

I don't think PD allows appliances upgrades (at least for lifestyle range).

But always worth asking a sales or admin person. Some home1 members were able to do unusual stuff just by asking.

Hey everyone happy new building year!!

Does everyone have things happening on site after Chrissy closure? We were told tiles would be delivered and started on the 13th, no waterproofing has even been started. Anxious to get the work moving again. On a positive note with all this hot weather our new house has stayed nice and cool, that's due to the hebel construction I think.

I feel so sorry for the guys working on the steel frame house at the end of our court. At 43 degrees, the steel must radiate heat and they were putting a Colourbond roof on it today Poor buggers, the block does not even have a tap so they have been coming down and filling their water bottles at ours.
