Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 25, 2013 1:54 pm Hi all, I PM'd Fu with this info but seems he hasn't been online for quite some time so time for a thread. We've just had new lawn put in at the front - Palmetto. It was done last Wednesday. The guy who did it hasn't done the greatest job with the joins and there are a few patches where there are gaps between edges of rolls/cuts and it seems a few of those edges are browning or dying off. We spoke to a lawn mower guy who mows in our street as we were going to organise a mow for a few weeks time. He even commented on the fact the guy didn't do a very good job at the joinings. We told him it may be due to the fact the guy was cutting the turf with a motorized edger He suggested we go to masters and get 'baileys lawn revival' and sprinkle some between the small gaps to hold in some moisture. He said not to put it on too thick. Problem is I'm having trouble finding that product at masters or Bunnings so I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a similar product that might be more readily available at one of those stores. Or if you might have a different suggestion all together. Other than that, the lawn is actually looking alright and is already taking root in most places as there is resistance when being gently tugged by some of the leaf. Just don't want it to be dying around edges as being buffalo will take ages to come back to life? He did put some organic type soil underneath and has added a wetting agent type gel with a sir Walter starter fertiliser or something underneath as well. Should I go and get one of the seasol hose attachment type watering things and give it a hit of that??? I will post some pics shortly. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Maybe I'm just being paranoid and it's bound to look a bit nasty in the first few weeks??? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. You can get some soil delivered (white washed sand) and top dress all the parts he missed). Also, some seasol shouldn't hurt it. I would add some molasses and powerfeed too. Re: New Palmetto lawn advice please!!! 4Nov 25, 2013 8:08 pm My palmetto was the same until i top dressed it and now its gone crazy. I wouldnt worry to much about it and just get some top dressing onto it. I'm sure I read in the Palmetto brochure that you should only top dress to level uneven ground. I'm not sure why this is??? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Initially i thought the "bits" in the compost wouldnt be so great but the lawn took off and within a few weeks all the gaps were filled and the lawn has settled amazingly. They did have a "compost lawn top dressing" i kind of wish i used as i assume it would have been finer, but the compost i used seems to have broken down into the lawn anyway. very pleased with it. Re: New Palmetto lawn advice please!!! 7Nov 29, 2013 12:38 pm All you need is sandy soil in those gaps. The lack of soil in the gaps is prohibiting lateral root growth. And until the roots settle into the soil underneath, you have to keep the lawn watered. Nothing new added to previous suggestions, but sand is what professionals use, not compost. Re: New Palmetto lawn advice please!!! 8Dec 09, 2013 11:25 pm MissM, if you need any Bailey's product you can get them from the company directly. They are off Patterson Road, Kwinana Beach, on the inland side. Look up their website for details. We used to get soil (trailer loads), fertilizer and minerals from them.
