I'm still wary, but he is assuring us that he has the best people on the job and they are now waiting for the engineer to advise. Re: _lucinda's house 383Nov 05, 2013 11:26 am I can understand why you are upset!!! And OMG you got the speak to the Site Supervisor already!! Scott didn't hear from his, even when there were problems, until his Inspection!!! Trying to get past the Reception is a nightmare... well it just doesn't happen My son and his fiance's build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66084 24/7 Slabbed 30/7 Framed 05/8 Gutters 08/8 Roof & windows 31/8 gyprock, bricks, cornice 3/9 Lock up 8/11 In Re: _lucinda's house 384Nov 05, 2013 11:32 am Fact that we got the call direct from the supervisor might be an indication of how major the problem is, or maybe how persuasive my husband can be. We have been invited to meet with the engineer on Thursday--what he says will be above our heads but we appreciate that we are being kept in the loop now. Regarding the front office staff, I feel for them. They are only doing their jobs and have obviously been told not to put owners in touch with any of the back office crew or on-site people, but it's not good customer service. Peace of mind makes for a much happier customer. The concerns include re-pesting, re-waterproofing, re-concreting, and reassurance that the rectifying measures are fully guaranteed. Also a smooth floor--we are having laminated floorboards which is probably the best for a potential bump, which is probably inevitable as the new concrete will sink as it sets and settles, but what if we change our minds later on and want carpet or tiles that require a smooth finish. We would have preferred being told before we found out by visiting the site to find the hole, but the SS is being great and including us in the loop now. Re: _lucinda's house 390Nov 06, 2013 2:51 pm Oh goodness it is big. Any idea why they did it in the first place? I would be very upset over that too. Then they put the metal reinforcement for the concrete down. I think a rod in the metal reinforcement went through a pipe. The plumber said it looks like someone working on the job didn't know what he was doing. I found this pdf online that covers the whole process of building a reinforced slab. Re: _lucinda's house 392Nov 06, 2013 4:06 pm Oh yep I get that. That's all the stuff that has been done on our house over the last week. Not good Lucinda, not good. I will cross my fingers and toes that whatever they do will fix it without a problem. Building the Leabrook with Fairmont Homes in Mallala, SA. Site supervisor and Engineer, who were both patient, pleasant, and more than willing to answer our questions and put our minds at rest, have assured us that the area will be reconstructed in a way that will not be at all obvious there has been a repair, and that the materials used will actually be even stronger than the original ... one has to ask why we don't get the stronger stuff in the first place. Anyway, the replacement plastic is taped to the original plastic and sealed, and pest and waterproofing all have to be signed off before new super concrete is laid, and this will be done in such a way that the result is as smooth as if there was no join at all, so they tell us. They also say it happens quite often--hmmm, something wrong with the process, me thinks. Anyway, all of this will be done before lockup, which should be soon, and then cupboards start to arrive. Moving on ... Oh, and we're looking at around mid- to late February for handover, so let's say March-ish. Thank you all so much for your help, advice, and support--your words both here and in private have kept me sane, well, as sane as I'll ever be. Three cheers to everyone. Re: _lucinda's house 396Nov 07, 2013 10:59 am Pleased to hear that they are taking care to fix it. Onwards and upwards! Yay for lock up really soon. Re: _lucinda's house 398Nov 07, 2013 12:56 pm So glad it all worked out! what a weight off of the chest! - bit concerning that it happens often though Funnily enough my partner works in commercial concrete repairs and fireproofing etc and said it wouldn't be an issue to fix the hole up - they have some pretty nifty products these days!
