I will ring my builder about light fittings to install them. I dont think my builder can install the light fittings. Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 4Sep 23, 2013 8:12 pm you would be better off getting them done by yourself. if not, ask the sparky on site for a carton to put the fittings in instead! Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 5Sep 23, 2013 10:48 pm A great Aussie company is Crompton. They make hundreds of light fittings that are really well priced. Find what you want online (part #s) and go to an electrical wholesaler. Ask them to quote them for you. You should get good savings over the lighting shops. Some oyster light fittings are looks nice and lower cost, can I fix it DIY? Or have to find electrician to install? Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 7Sep 24, 2013 9:21 am Crompton do a DIY range. But if you already have batten holders a sparkie should be able to change 2-3 an hour. If you have a sparkie change 6 fittings it should only cost a couple of hundred dollars, so don't feel trapped into using the DIY range. Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 8Sep 24, 2013 9:56 am ChargerWA, No worries mate, will find the best way Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 9Sep 24, 2013 1:12 pm i spoke with my builders electrician, they are fixing my lights for $25 a light, check my thread tonight and there should be pictures of em! I have recently done renovations at my home and found a fantastic sparky! He was quite cheap, and his work quality was great!! I had him install a couple of pendant light fittings above my kitchen bench, LED downlights throughout the house, upgraded all my light switches and power points to the Clipsal Saturn range (http://www.clipsal.com.au/trade/products/powerpoints_and_switches/saturn_horizon) as well as install an alarm system. If anyone is looking for a sparky in northern suburbs of Melbourne, feel free to PM me and I will pass on his details ! Cheers Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 11Sep 24, 2013 2:21 pm Thanks MrsG. I forgot to mention, Iam looking pendent light also in above my breakfast bar. You are too far from my place, unfortunately I can't do anything. We are from newcastle/Nsw Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 12Sep 24, 2013 2:40 pm Cameron32 Thanks MrsG. We are from newcastle/Nsw If you are looking for pendants, have you tried places online that will deliver? I shopped in store but a few of the places I have bought from in the past are Matt Blatt, Sokol, Beacon Lighting and even eBay who will post to most places Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 13Sep 24, 2013 3:11 pm I just start looking MrsG. Still long way to go, once finish my construction, do it after handover or ask the builder to fix it while they do construction. Meanwhile Iam searching best light fittings. If you have pictures just post it through here. Thanks Re: First time build - Light fitting Ideas 14Nov 12, 2013 8:22 pm Cameron32 Hi guys, Currently building my first home, only Basic light fittings (batten holders) are included my builders package. After handover going to remove all the batten holders and add a nice light fittings throughout home DIY method. Please let me some suggestions about where to find the Decorative Lights for cheaper cost and also post the Decorative Lights pictures if have one. Hi Cameron32, We are organizing our lighting outside of our building contract. The builder was charging way too much and we have no control over what we you pick. We got our builders electrician to write up a quote for installing it while in construction. We found the most helpful place to buy lights was Rovert Lighting at Broadmeadow. You can make an appointment there with a lighting expert. You bring along your house plan and they will go through each room with you and discuss and demonstrate the best lighting that is available. If you place a big enough order (we went a bit nuts) they will give you a 20% trade discount. Well worth checking out!
