We've got our *contract take 2* appointment today

It should go to plan this time

But I've been second guessing

my kitchen colour choice over the past week. ARGHHHHHH!

We've chosen laminex parchment in the shaker door profile and most of the kitchens I've pinned on pinterest are white. Dunno if I should change it to polar white or white, we are having caesar stone Osprey for our bench and our glass splashback is Dulux Limed White (a 'greige' colour). Wall colour is Lushious White (quite similar to Floktali - but a bit warmer in tone) and trim is First Snow.

I really should have shown our colour consultant pictures I liked of kitchens - it wasn't till last week I realized that most of the kitchens I like on pinterest are white http://pinterest.com/sandra_inglis/home-kitchens/ and maybe I should be doing the white kitchen too.

I plan on buying silver coloured cup pulls and knobs from the US and have them shipped over. Cup pulls for the drawers and knobs for the cupboards. Something like this:

Now??? Pictured are the three whites - Parchment, White and Polar White - with Osprey

If we do change it, we might need to change the splash back to half limed white - or choose another 'white-ish' splash back that will go with osprey and our wall colour.

What should I do????

If anyone has photos of their parchment kitchens I'd be quite happy to see them...

I prefer your original colour selection to be honest, the new one looks a bit too bland for my taste. The plain white splashback doesn't appeal either, I suspect it will look dirty very quickly and be a lot harder to maintain than the darker shade you first chose.

I had similar issues with my colour selection appointment - my first choices almost got replaced by a last-minute change, which would have been an awful idea for me looking back at it.

In the end I trusted my long-term research and judgement over my last minute nerves and think I got it right. BTW, I'm also building a Drysdale 30 and can tell you that once construction finally starts it will go very quickly. Site scrape and slab down took about two weeks, framing was about a week and a half, and despite hitting a problem that caused a couple of weeks delay we should have the roof on next week. I think we started on April 14th, so that should give you an idea of how fast things move.

I guess it depends on the overall tone you are looking for. Are you looking for a warm or cool tone? Interestingly you have chosen Polar White for your Laundry, so it is also a colour that you like. I think the Parchment gives off a yelow hint (warm) and the Polar White (cooler) hint. I am no colours expert though. We personally have gone for the Polar White cupboards with the Essa Stone Crystal Chalk (not that different to Osprey). However we have a green splashback so can't quite compare there. We are wanting a "Fresh clean look". (haven't built it yet though)

The photo of the colours on the white paper makes them look quite yellow, however they don't look like that in the photos from your appointment. I remember stewing over what type of white to chose and at the end of the day I came to the realisation of - As long as it is white of some sort, it doesn't really matter, no one will look at my kitchen and think I should have a different sort of white. Overall it will just be white. I just had the colour consultant help us chose the right white for the rest of the colours in our palette.

I'm thinking maybe I should go back to Hopetoun on the weekend. I really want to get it right and I don't want to regret my choice. I like what u said MummaDJ about the shade of white and what others think. Lol. That's true. Ill talk to my BC about it today anyway. I just can't decide. Sometimes I'm happy with it and other times I agree with mumtomonkeys that it should be white or grey. I do like the crispness of the polar white but lean towards warmer tones for walls and furnishings.

I would agree that a trip to Hopetoun is probably best just to make sure you get it right and have your mind at ease. You don't want to regret your decision.

It is hard to see the colours without the reflection of what is surrounding them. I never saw yellow in parchment until I put it against white either. Lighting also has an effect. I was going with polar white, but decided on alabaster (which looks a bit pink, but only against stark white!) as it will tone in with everything else.

That's true... Who would have thought colours would be such a pain! Will check out alabaster too when I'm at Hopetoun on the weekend.

You guys look to be all over it with the decisions..... so many things you have decided on already.

Id suggest taking some of your flooring out into the sun or in good lighting to see how they look against the colours you have selected..

The laminate places should be able to give you some big samples to have a look at and the flooring places fill give you planks and carpet that you can keep as big samples as well.

Looking forward to seeing the progress and hopefully you guys are in before Christmas!!!!

In other news... I went into Hopetoun this morning (where the interior designer I spoke to there did not know what I meant when I said "Shaker Style Kitchen" :shock:

)

I'm a little bit clearer about my colours. Played around with the caesar stone and essa stone and took plenty of pics. The shaker style door they have there is Polar white so it was handy to see that with Osprey and Ice Snow.

I love this kitchen and it has the cool white cupboards with the warm beige walls and darker floors. Walls in this picture are darker than what we are having - but we could always paint the kitchen walls a darker colour to get this effect - maybe even the same colour as our backsplash - Limed White.

Thanks Back Pocket! Yeah, those pendant lights are really nice, but I'm in love with the industrial hamptons style pendant lights.

This afternoon we're going to get a sample pot and paint up a board so we can compare the splashback colour with polar white and make sure it's right. It's too hard to get an accurate idea from the tiny paint chip cards.

Settlement has been rumoured to happen in June! PD and our mortgage broker have told us that it'll be June. Hopefully we'll hear something official in the next few days. It'll be touch and go to be in by Christmas!
