Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 May 19, 2013 11:22 am Hi All we are about to start on the exciting adventure that is Owner Builder....as if i am not grey enough already! One of the most important decisions is obviously going to be method of construction. Im putting it out there to get all your fors and against for Double Brick vs Brick Veneer. From my research I have found that Brick Veneer enables you to have more control over your energy rating with use of insulation and i did even read that it can be more sound in extreme weather conditions as opposed to solid brick construction...not to mention the cost difference. My father has said to me.....brick veneer looks terrible (struggling to see this one) and double brick is just better. As has his bricklayer friend. To me that is not a sound argument. Soooo, i am putting it out there. What do you think? Thanks Mel Re: New OB in Perth...double brick or brick veneer 2May 19, 2013 12:58 pm Quote: From my research I have found that Brick Veneer enables you to have more control over your energy rating with use of insulation and i did even read that it can be more sound in extreme weather conditions as opposed to solid brick construction...not to mention the cost difference. You are correct in that a brick veneer wall can be made to be far superior to double brick insulation wise. It is also a lot easier to run cables etc in the wall not to mention a cheaper form of construction. Once again you are right. Brick veneer looks exactly the same from the outside as double brick so I don't know what your father means by this. The brickie just wants to get the job of laying far more bricks with db rather than the outside skin of bv! Stewie Re: New OB in Perth...double brick or brick veneer 3May 19, 2013 8:14 pm While brick veneer is likely more superior in energy ratings, having anything other than double brick in WA may shoot your re-sale in the future. Brick veneer may also cost you more to construct in WA due to the cheapness of internal blockwork. 5 11171 can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 5579 Brass fly wire, you will need to cut it, shape it and jam it into brick slots 1 8058 |
