From memory it had rated the non banks as having the best. AMP was quite competitive. Re: First Home Saver Accounts 5Nov 22, 2013 8:31 pm I'm using Ubank (part of the NAB group) and they offer 4.26%. I'm only new to this whole game, but I guess you have to be careful with the difference in rising house/land costs, vs getting in early with a slightly smaller deposit Re: First Home Saver Accounts 6Nov 24, 2013 6:51 pm I've just finished my term and have withdrawn the funds. At the time I posted my shout out I was finding it difficult to close the account, but within two days it was all sorted. I don't know every single aspect of the account but if u had general questions let me know Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk --- Re: First Home Saver Accounts 7Nov 24, 2013 7:01 pm Both my partner and I had one of these accounts and we each contributed an amount to receive the maximum from the government. We also received bank interest on the account. Over the four year period, the combined savings was in excess of $50,000. A great incentive if you can wait the four financial years. We opened the accounts and contributed $6,000 in each in June, and then held them for only 26 months as we had other funds to contribute to the accounts in July 25 months after opening. This then meet the four year rule. We were with Police Credit Co-op. If two people saving for a house together and each meet the criteria for these accounts and you can save to contribute to both it is worth opening an account each. Shane Re: First Home Saver Accounts 8Jan 22, 2014 6:20 pm Hi Homemaker, As per my previous post in the thread, we found the first home owner accounts very beneficial to guiding us and assisting us in our savings. The government will contribute 17% annually to contributions up to a total annual contribution somewhere around $1000. It changes annually. Worth jumping onto the ATO website to find out more. http://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/First ... r-account/ The account is offered by a number of banks and financial institutions. The catch is you must contribute a minimum of $1000 in a financial year for four financial years to have access to your money. I opened my account in June and contributed the required $1,000, and then continued the contribute the required $1,000 each financial year until I could access the funds, which in my case was just over 26 months. June 2011 - $1,000 - 1st financial year July 2011 - $1,000 - 2nd financial year July 2012 - $1,000 - 3rd financial year July 2013 - $1,000 - 4th financial year Happy to provide further feedback if required. Shane Soak wells and electrical run in happening this week! Summit has told me they will relocate the laundry plumbing after the walls are completed.
