Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Dec 18, 2017 8:20 pm Hi All, Need some advice on what downlights to use in my theatre room. The room is going to be fairly dark with charcoal walls and black ceiling. At the back of the room, I will have 3 large limited edition movie posters on the back wall, and just below these I will have some movie memorabilia displayed. For this reason, I want the room lit up fairly well so the art work and memorabilia display can be seen well. The room is 3.8m x 3.8m. I have pre-ordered a set of these from Beacon Lighting, but I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for black downlights that look nice, with a high lumen output: https://www.beaconlighting.com.au/ledlu ... white.html Re: lighting in my theatre room 5Dec 19, 2017 12:29 pm Yes, they come in black and are expensive, but lumen output is much higher than other brands and you can always negotiate on price (with resellers, not when buying directly online). They have lower output models too, which are cheaper. Re: lighting in my theatre room 7Dec 19, 2017 2:03 pm Actually thinking of using these in a row of 3 to light up the artwork on the back wall: https://www.jdlighting.com.au/brightgre ... light.html Then 4 cheaper downlights for general lighting in the rest of the room, like the Beacon ones. Thoughts? lighting in my theatre room 8Dec 19, 2017 11:42 pm The D900 S doesn’t swivel, so is just a downlight. That's why I suggested the D900 SHX. If cost is the issue, you could go for the D550 SHX. It only outputs 550 lumen, but should do the job. An alternative might be the Kinetic from Unios lighting, and it is over 700 lumens. My supplier quoted $140 for those, but that was in a big order. She also quoted $189 for the D900 SHX, so see what you can get if you shop around. We've only received our D550 SHX so far, but the Brightgreen lights are beautifully built. Re: lighting in my theatre room 9Dec 19, 2017 11:57 pm yeah I know, but I didn't think the swivelling surface mounted ones would work. as I want to light the art work on the walls as well as the movie memorabilia that will sit on a floating shelf across the width of my back wall just below the framed posters/prints, I wasn't sure how I would do this with the swivelling light. If I am towards the wall, the art work is lit up but the movie props miss out on the light. If I aim it down slightly, I can light up the props, but the top half of the posters might miss out on the light. The room will have a projector mounted towards the back wall. I figured if I use 3 of the D900 S at the back, one above each poster frame to light up the posters, then 2 regular downlights in the ceiling mounted further in front, followed by another 2 downlights towards the front, so the setup would be the 3 surface-mounted lights at the back to light up the art work then the 4 downlights as regular lighting, with the 2 towards the back lighting up the props as well as the back half of the room. I actually e-mailed the Brightgreen design team with my plans and what I'm trying to do, and they are going to do a lighting design/plan for me Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1. optional, you can but normally just use the earth from the main switch board 2. should be enough but the distance determines voltage drop - sparky should work it… 1 29109 I have a really long hallway which is 1100mm W x 11500mm L I would appreciate if anyone can give suggestions to light it up with Linear LED lights that goes from wall to… 0 9129 What?
