Material and Labour cost is cheaper for metal roof, but maintenance is higher. You have to replace the entire sheet vs a few tiles that's cracked if something heavy (ie hail) drops. Solar panels are easier to install on metal, they use the existing screw to mount, as opposed to tiles -- they'll lift the tile and install brackets on the wood frame (and drill). Thanks for your reply. Will it cause roof leaking if solar panels screw direct to the metal? Also I'm curious about will it cause leaking if installed on the tile as well. Just to be clear, on the colour bond, there are existing screw holes and screws. They don't drill new holes to accomodate for the solar, they use an existing screw hole. (Of course, always good to get a second opinion.) Note that a metal roof will allow you to hear the rain but a tiled roof will almost block out any rain noise. Coming back to this....
