Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 61Mar 24, 2015 9:41 am So further to the door handle issue i'm still tossing up with what to go with the internal doors. My thoughts are i'm wanting something modern but not sure if the internal doors need to match the front external door. Soooo posting what i've narrowed it down to. Anyone with some creative flair care to comment? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So this is the front door. Like half of everyone building, (Or so it seems!), we have gone for the Corinthian INFWS8G with translucent glass. It will be 2340 x 1200 x 40 but won't have any sidelights. It will be stained. My original thought was to go with internal doors below as it had the similar horizontal pattern down the door. But now i'm thinking this looks old fashioned??? as its similar to my current house. Internal doors will be painted. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 1 Sooo now i'm looking at one of these two options. Both still have a horizontal line. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 2 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option 3 I know obviously its my decision but wandering other peoples thoughts. Afterall there is ALOT of internal doors. Something like 27. Man that's alot of painting!! Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 62Mar 24, 2015 10:22 am I like option 3 Maybe you should find a company that fits stains and delivers (that's the ad I hear anyway!) At least painting doors is fairly easy. Just do it before you hang them Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 63Mar 24, 2015 11:03 am I can't seem to see any of your pictures.
We have the same front door with clear glass, when I have compared clear and translucent the clear does look a lot better, but I guess it depends on how much privacy you want. Not sure what it is, but I just prefer the clear. EDIT: (Can see the photos in IE, but not chrome). Not really a fan of any of those doors tbh. Unless your house is uber modern feel it will just look too busy. Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 64Mar 24, 2015 11:52 am I'm in the same boat. I want plain as possible so prefer select 2. Like my husband says it's only a door. People are not going to comment on your doors etc. I personally don't think it need to look like your exterior door. Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 65Mar 24, 2015 12:04 pm My 2c. Go for a solid timeless design. Focus on modern fittings. Minimalistic to an extent. If your bold, also go for a prime color on the doors. Black, yellow or red are trends, and Any color can adapt in future to other color trends later. I did all the doors in my current house without a hitch. Just want to pick the right door Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 67Mar 24, 2015 1:29 pm So hard to choose things! What does your gut say? Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 68Mar 24, 2015 1:33 pm Thanks yvonneh, kavehman, building4my3tots and SteveMc. More confused than ever now Appreciate the feedback.
Not really a fan of plain doors, i find they can look cheapish, (not always), IMHO unless they are solid and painted well. Happy with them being a little bit busy as the rest of the house is probably going to be fairly plain and neutral. SteveMc My 2c. Go for a solid timeless design. Focus on modern fittings. Not that brave SteveMc but thanks Back to thinking about them. Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 70Mar 24, 2015 3:26 pm Go with the gut. It is more traditional so but I don't think anyone will notice it not working or working except you. Doors is one of those things that is kinda just there without being noticed. Re: Snapshot of our OB project...Framing 71Mar 30, 2015 11:42 am Just a quick post with some extra photos. 1st and second floors well underway now and its starting to take shape. All going to plan and very happy with the quality of the construction work on the frame. Still to go by mid April (Fingers crossed!) : some more bracing of the frame, temporary props to be replaced with the steel beams, roof trusses and windows/ doors to be installed. Balcony, alfresco and third garage has not even started yet.
On another note, i managed to climb the ladder with my hip 5 weeks post surgery as i had to check the view out for myself. It is truly amazing (and scary) up there! Oh and BIG! So first off is the view from near where my front balcony will be. I know its not a beach or mountains but its miles better than i thought it would be. Still no shots with my better camera so it's just mobile camera shots for now. A small view out the back to the Blue Mountains in the background. Stair void. Would have been much bigger if i had the space. Some outside shots Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 72Mar 30, 2015 1:47 pm wow! Looks great gandn. Amazing work in getting up there with the 'new' hip! And brave! You must be very pleased with how it's turning out Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 73Mar 30, 2015 2:12 pm Looking good gandn. It does look like they are doing a fantastic job. Do you have an independent building inspector to inspect the work? Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 74Mar 30, 2015 3:12 pm yvonneh wow! Can't wipe the smile off my face Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 75Mar 30, 2015 3:38 pm Abztronic Looking good gandn. It does look like they are doing a fantastic job. Do you have an independent building inspector to inspect the work? Short answer no. Longer answer. We are inspecting it as we go along. My husband has been in the industry for almost 25 years and has worked with, or known through work, all but one trade we have had on site so far. On top of this he has been involved in every step of the process so far. I'm pretty lucky that he is the handiest, most hardworking and above all fussiest person I've ever met He has already picked up errors or things he wasn't happy with and made the trades correct them quite a few times. We have paid for it to be inspected twice so far by our engineer and it is also still subject to being inspected by our building certifier along the way for its critical inspections. Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 76Mar 30, 2015 7:13 pm That is awesome! Can he come and oversee my build too? Haha. Glad to hear everything is going well though Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 77Mar 31, 2015 1:04 pm Huge downpour of rain in Sydney over the last few hours. Weather report said light showers today but some parts have had 60mm since 9am. That's no shower! I reckon we've had about 15-30mm here at least.
Rain has been such a re-curring pain in the butt in this build and we are only at the start. On top of the flooded strip footings and delays with plumbing and brick laying because of it, I think it's rained everyday since my frame went up. Headed out to the site and was very surprised to see my 2 wet and cold framers still there. They were waiting for it to let up so they could get back to it. I didn't fail to notice the new waterfall i have coming over my second floor void or the river of water running across the top of my slab. I do hope it comes out sunny so the guys can get back to it. I won't bet any money on it not raining over the next week though. Afterall how many sunny Easter's have we had??? Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 78Mar 31, 2015 2:36 pm It's sunny now! Hope it's hot enough to dry up the wet! Re: Snapshot of our OB project... 80Mar 31, 2015 4:16 pm Damn that sucks about the weather.
