Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 03, 2013 3:19 pm Hi all, First time posting but I have done a bit of reading on this forum and other sites into setting up a home theatre. I have not done a projector set up before, so this will be all new to me. We are planning to build our home and with it comes the opportunity to set up a dedicated theatre room. The room is not large, it is 3730mm wide X 4280mm long. I will have the screen on the short wall. My plan is to mount the projector screen behind this so it is hidden when retracted, until I lower it. With the space behind the screen, I can also put a few shelves to hold DVDs and assorted items. When the screen is lowered, these will be covered. - Have a riser installed at the back which will be 1500mm deep X 300mm high. I plan to put a 4-seater sofa on it. The idea is not to put another row of seats in front of the riser as that would cramp up the room too much. Rather I will have large comfortable cushions for people to sit on the floor and lean against the riser. I am going for a more of a casual and comfy look rather than all reclining individual theatre seats. - Planning to get a 100" screen. Will this be too big for the people sitting in front? Their eyes will be approximately 2 metres away. Otherwise a 90" might suffice. - I will request cabling to be done: 2 rear and 2 front speakers wired to wall plate in front. Still thinking about in ceiling speakers for a cleaner look. Also HDMI cable from projector ceiling location to wall plate in front. Plus powerpoints in ceiling for projector and motorised screen. - Extra noggins in ceiling for mounting projector and screen. - Soundproofing in walls? The far wall will be a large window, while the entrance will be double cavity doors. These are all my thoughts so far, I have not gone through them with the builder yet but they seem reasonable to me in my head. Equipment wise, I will be using my existing Sony amplifier. I will then need to purchase the projector screen, projector (probably Epson EH-TW6100), and a blu-ray player. The estate is NBN greenfield, so I think I will put data points in this room as well. I will look into wiring up the rest of the house but that is another discussion. What do you guys think? Did I forget anything? Particularly the cabling. Cheers Re: Building new home - small home theatre set up 3May 06, 2013 11:56 am Hi Fusilli Jerry, I think your plan is pretty good. Some things to consider would be having a thick curtain over the window to block out the light and to act as sound absorption. The 90" screen may be more suitable for the distance but could possibly get away with a 100". Some thought will need to go where the placement of AV components will go - The Amplifier, Blu-ray player, media player etc.. Also the Centre speaker and Subwoofer placement. Due to the size limitations, it may be worth while considering the ceiling/wall speakers. Definitely have data points at equipment location in the room 2 minimum - 4 ideal. I ran 2 HDMI cables to my projector just in case one fails which it did when moulding broke apart. I liked your HT room setup in the pictures thread. I'll definitely put curtains on the window, and also 2 HDMI cables. With ceiling speakers, would the ones with the angled cones be more appropriate for the front speakers to drive the sound forward? Or doesn't matter? Something like these: http://www.selby.com.au/electronics/speakers/in-ceiling-speakers/6-5in-angled-poly-ceiling-speakers-xd6204.html I would probably be placing my equipment in front, together with the subwoofer on the flloor. I'm yet to brush up on the data points, but what else do I use them for besides streaming movies from the net and browsing? And what equipment actually uses the data points? -FJ Re: Building new home - small home theatre set up 5May 07, 2013 10:45 am For the fronts & centre, some decent wall speakers would be suitable and ceiling speakers for the rear. http://www.selby.com.au/electronics/speakers/in-wall-speakers.html Blu-ray players, new receivers, and most things in the future will use a network port so they can be controlled, updated and use online functions. As it will be the entertainment room, 4 data ports would be recommended. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 19615 consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 7079 |
