Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 03, 2008 9:12 am Hi everyone
I was surprised to find not much reference on this site to North Lakes, on the outer north of Brisbane. It's a rapidly growing subdivision, popular with southerners and Brits, as well as locals. Anyway, if you're interested, I am building a single storey family home, Ausbuild's Kimberley in one of the newest releases, the Outlook. Slab pour next week! Thanks to everyone for creating this great community of ideas and information. Welcome to the forum. I've had a quick look at your blog - your house looks great. I love your colours, very fresh. I'm sure everyone will be very interested in watching it all come together. Good luck with it all. Rapid Progress 3Oct 18, 2008 7:51 am On Monday, God (aka the builder) made a slab.
On Tuesday he gave it a frame to keep it company. On Wednesday he brought trusses into the world. On Thursday he raised them to the sky. And on Friday he built a gateway to it all and called it a portico. Then, being as how it was the fifth day and all, he knocked off early and rested. What a week! My original choice was the black one, second from left, called Black Super Sparkle, which I thought would complement the whole house theme of grey and white, as well as the black glass mosaic tile chosen for the bathrooms and laundry. I love the sparkle effect in it, which if picked up by the light over the stove and the feature pendants over the kitchen bench, should look great. My main concern is whether it will look too stark against the whiteness of everything else - the Caesarstone "Snow" benches, white cupboards and white floor tiles. The alternative is the blue one, second from right, Shimmer Blue, which complements the teal colour (Taubmans "Graphica") which I have chosen for the feature art and other accents in the room. I have the feeling this would give a lighter, fresher feel to the central area of the house. Its shimmer is not as spectacular as the super sparkle, but it still has a lovely metallic depth to it. The question is, will it be neutral enough to appeal to a future buyer? I have found a few photographs online that help give an idea of the total look. I'm leaning towards the blue. What do you think? I think the black would be safe but wont be as welcoming. The blue is fresh and very pleasing to the eye and I think anyone who walks into your kitchen will just go WOW! It looks great in that photo with all the white. If you have everything else in grey and white, this blue would be your special feature. I love it so much, I wonder if I can change my splashback No Su it's too late, just talking to myself here love the blue. Re: North Lakes, Queensland - colour update 6Nov 01, 2008 10:17 am I'm with SuH. I really love black splashbacks - I think they look stunning, but the blue just looks so fresh and homey. Gives the room a more relaxing feel than the black. What floor will you have? Will that make a difference to the overall look of either choice? Re: North Lakes, Queensland - colour update 7Nov 01, 2008 2:20 pm Love love love the blue - but then again I am having a blue benchtop LOL. I just think like the others that it is sooooo fresh and happy looking. The black is very sophisticated however - so depends what look you are going for. Re: North Lakes, Queensland - colour update 8Nov 01, 2008 2:22 pm welcome jeanete! North Lakes is fantastic - is anyone in your family a golfer? After 4 years - we're in! Re: North Lakes, Queensland - colour update 9Nov 01, 2008 3:11 pm No, no golfers here. Being a bit of a bushwalker/nature girl I can't really understand paying a big premium to look at golfers from my back patio. But we like the fact that the golf course is nearby and creates a bit of a wildlife corridor though the estate (last refuge for the kangaroos), and that there are so many other parks, bikeways etc in North Lakes.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far. This is a picture of the kitchen area in the display home. The end wall will be white, with plantation shutters through to the kids' computer area and a large canvas (I'm thinking one of my photos in black and white on a teal background). The microwave/pantry area will be the fridge space, as I've put a walk-in pantry on the other side (not visible). And the kitchen bench will have waterfall edges.
