Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 29, 2016 7:25 am Hi Everyone!
My name is Emma, I’m 30 years old I have been stalking threads daily on HomeOne for about 6 months now and decided now that everything but the finance has been finalised, its time to start my own! Building a house is so confusing, but being able to read about other people's experiences has been fantastic. I am very nervous as I am going at this on my own and I don’t know a thing about building, but GJ have a great reputation in my area and everyone I have spoken to that has built with them, has had a great experience. So far, GJ have been so accommodating to me when changing my mind or adding things at the last minute before and after the contract was signed. GJ are building me a beautiful Beachlands 206 on a 600sqm block on the Fraser Coast. My block is elevated but it is flat on top and is “S” class soil. Yay! I have been following along with your build too! It's going to be stunning! <3 Finally got the ok from the bank that loan has been approved today! So relieved! I'm looking forward to enjoying the build now, hopefully it will all go smoothly from now on! Footings going in tomorrow and slab being poured on Thursday. Going to try and control myself and only go visit the block once a week but I know I won't be able to contain myself! It's so exciting! Second guessing my colour choices but keep having to tell myself to trust my instincts! But it's so hard when you see such lovely inspiration on here haha! Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 4Aug 02, 2016 10:54 am Congratulations on the finance approval. We are a week or so behind you and also building with GJ in North QLD. I keep second guessing my choices too but I suppose that's always going to be the case. My husband is 'over' all the decision making so wont let me amend anything haha Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 6Aug 02, 2016 7:03 pm townsvillebuyer Congratulations on the finance approval. My husband is 'over' all the decision making so wont let me amend anything haha Thanks so much! Its starting to feel so real now! I have been following along with your build as well! Your colours are amazing!! I feel so bad for stuffing my CC around, but I suppose they are used to it! I'm just sticking to my instincts now. Hopefully if I don't like it, it will be something simple to change later down the track! I find you have to have such an imagination to be able to picture how everything is going to look together! Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 7Aug 02, 2016 7:14 pm I go between daring and scared to make a bold choice. I want to have some style but also don't want to pigeon hole anything. Iv been questioning my decision to have a copper sink all day as i worry it will date however I love it and it's going to be my home for the next 5-10 years... Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 8Aug 02, 2016 7:31 pm It's something I haven't seen before, but I think the copper sink works beautifully with the colour scheme you have chosen. I'm sure once its all installed it will put your mind at ease! It was funny when I was at my colour selections, I was so indecisive on my exterior colours that I took like an hour to come to decision, and Melanie said 1 hour was good, she once had a couple take all day to decide their roof colour! Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 9Aug 02, 2016 7:42 pm fiat10 Ha ha!! Once a week?!? Good luck with that! I'm at ours twice a day! Congrats on the finance Have you got pics from your colour selection?? Sooo...I've failed already haha! I went to the block again tonight after work! I need to invest in some gumboots! It looks so small, I'm freaking out! They may be boring colours but I think you can always add colour with Décor! Don't worry about it looking small. I thought the same thing with mine but as it goes up and I see room sizes I start to get a better feel for the house. Love your colours - we are doing the whole contrast thing also but with white and dark greys/blacks instead of the cream. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 13Aug 03, 2016 1:23 pm charlibear Hey Emma, I am too going to be building with GJ Gardner, I am building with the Grafton office down in Northern NSW That's so great they started your build without official approval from the bank!! I hope you get your finance sorted quickly, its such a long wait isn't it! I'm so happy that the build has started, was a bit stressed when it was all going ahead and still had no finance! Was freaking out about the 'What Ifs!" But glad it worked out in the end! My council application only took 2 weeks, so hopefully yours comes through that quickly so you can start! My gosh, its so awesome to hear from the people I have been following along with the builds! I love this forum! I'm so lucky to have supportive parents who have built before, because they're helping me to calm my farm! "What's this? Why did they do that? There's not enough slab for 4 bedrooms!!!" haha! I was totally changing my mind over the black garage door, I thought it would be too harsh. But I didn't really know what to change it to and if I changed it now, it would hold up the build so just have to go with it. I hope I made the right choice! I still have to decide on a cladding colour! I have no idea! I've done a couple of mockups on Photoshop I'll have to share later! Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 15Aug 04, 2016 6:40 am I know this finance ordeal has totally wrecked me haha, mainly because our broker was away now he's back, is leaving again soon and trying to get our application through by next Friday I wonder if I can tempt my builder into going to council while we are waiting for approval I noticed a DA that took 2 weeks to the day so I have me hopes up haha probably not a good thing on this journey. How long have you been on H1 for just following along? Coulda joined in on my thread the more the merrier I say. Don't forget to share your mock ups GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 16Aug 04, 2016 7:37 am charlibear I know this finance ordeal has totally wrecked me haha, mainly because our broker was away now he's back, is leaving again soon and trying to get our application through by next Friday I wonder if I can tempt my builder into going to council while we are waiting for approval I noticed a DA that took 2 weeks to the day so I have me hopes up haha probably not a good thing on this journey. Don't forget to share your mock ups GJ Gardner Modified Coolum 277 viewtopic.php?t=83643 You can only try!! I mean, my GJ started building the damn house without finance approval, so I don't see why not haha! Apparently I've been a member since January I guess I kept quiet because, I've had so many disappointments on this journey, I didn't want to get invested and get my hopes up! But now that the slab in almost down, you wont be able to shut me up haha!! So here is what I did in photoshop. Obviously colours arnt 100% accurate, but I wanted to give myself an idea. I showed my CC and she liked them, but she said she will see what other paint colours I can have. I originally chose Paperbark as my cladding colours but then I realised where abouts they were going on the house, I thought it would be too boring and blend in too much with the brick colour. I like contrast, can you tell? I like the brown to sort of match the front door, but I don't know the how deep the stain will be, so don't know if it will look alright. We have a partial slab and for what was planned to go on there we (well more so my other half) was starting to have apanic, but as soon as the framing goes up and the wall wrap it makes a huge difference, just wait and see 😊. I like the terrain colour but I may be biased as im trying to do a similar thing by woodstaining some axon cladding to pick out the colours of my deck and front door. Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 18Aug 04, 2016 4:39 pm Yea! I really, really like the brown. Hoping that the Solid brown cladding and the wood don't look funny together. Just got my Electrical variation back. $3k Re: Sunandstars Build - GJ Gardner Hervey Bay - Beachlands 2 19Aug 04, 2016 4:40 pm I like the terrain also Holy wow, what did you upgrade to?
