Im feeling like every way i turn to escape it i just get hit back up again Is everybody else having a hard time or is there cheaper quality builders to go with??? Our home is $221,000 Re: Help!! Who is blowing their budget out of the water. 2Mar 27, 2014 9:52 pm Hi Janna, Unfortunately site costs are one of those things that can catch you unawares. If you look through the forums, you will see that there are many threads and comments related to site costs. Unfortunately too, changing builders may not mean you save any money in site costs. Much of the cash is tied up with excavation and drop edge beams, things like that. The necessity for these may not change if you go with a different builder. I assume your block would have a but of slope on it or perhaps there is a sewer line or similar leading to increased piering costs. If it is a drop edge beam that is of concern then maybe a split in the slab could help matters. That is if you are ok with steps inside the home. I would be interested in seeing what other people have to say but these days $221,000 is not an uncommon figure when building a new house. Chin up though, don't get too down about it. You may need to come up with some clever cost savings elsewhere. I wish you all the best in building your new home. Cheers, Jenny. Need hints, tips and inspiration? Who is blowing their budget out of the water. 3Mar 29, 2014 7:04 am $221k for a build doesn't seem a lot to me but depends on the size and spec of the design. I think you will need to expect that at each stage/appt there will be things to add on. Even where the standard range is generous you still might find that there are plenty of items you want or even may need that are not included (eg driveway). I don't mean to discourage you in any way but you definitely need to set aside decent amounts for each appt on top of the tender price. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Help!! Who is blowing their budget out of the water. 7Jun 03, 2014 1:26 pm we didn't want to spend more than 200k on land - next minute 220k gone we didn't want to go over 210 on the house - next minute 260k gone LOL! Didn't work too great for us. But we can afford it so we're (although not happy about paying more) very pleased with the quality and luxury of the home we have selected. Just need to make sure you have what you need. 220 is a really good price if thats including some extras and all site costs... Re: Help!! It's the same with cars where there can be a big difference between list price and 'On the Road' and thats before you start on the extras like alloy wheels etc. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
