Sounds like you are really organised. I'm looking forward to seeing your landscaping and other goodies you've got planned Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 302May 11, 2015 9:59 pm Those shutters are beautiful and happy to hear you're getting heating, looks chilly down there. I'm with TC can't believe it's been 3 weeks! Thanks for letting us know that you love your home and it's all worth it. Custom build Northern NSW viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72217 Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 303May 12, 2015 7:28 am Wow thanks for the update. The shutters look great. And can't wait to see more of the paving! Tradies turning up is concerning me but want to be in. Dilemma atm is that optus (internet) is scheduled for next week but I don't have a handover date and I don't want to be internet less. Ah sacrificing internet for the house... Have there any been any new issues? Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 304May 13, 2015 9:12 pm Thanks TC, TW & Yvonne. We're so happy with the shutters, it was worth the extended wait in the end. TW - yup it's getting chilly. Thank goodness we have hearing as of yesterday! yvonneh Wow thanks for the update. Ahh the battle over handover. It's so hard to know when to schedule tradies and when to stand your ground and make the builder fix things before you give up some of your leverage with that big fat cheque. I'm pleased we took the keys when we did, even though I'm sick of their tradies slowly traipsing through. We were renting and we were over it, we just wanted to get the keys, get our tradies through and move in! What do you think you'll do with the Internet vs handover debate?our internet was all scheduled to go in on time, but then they wound up have to "disconnect an active line" although it had been us living there prior to demolition, and then we had to prove we owned the house and they disputed the house Title documents - stating they didn't meet their guidelines for proof and then all these other issues too. I was so over them!! But we're stuck in contract for ages still. Oh well, all done now. Hopefully yours will go very smoothly though. Paving update - more rain yesterday but not much today. Front yard is half done, back is finished. Then they're compacting the area for the rainwater tank and installing that, and finishing off a few odd jobs. We are going to do the grass and plantings (eventually, this will take a while. Especially since it's approaching winter so the ground is too cold for much work) Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 305May 13, 2015 9:17 pm What a mighty fine home you have charlston, everything looks brilliant, agree with all that the plantation shutter are stunning and well worth the wait. Sounds like your getting everything ticked off your list nicely and you have heating. Hope your little munchkins are settling in to there beautiful new home. Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 306May 13, 2015 9:18 pm Yeah, it's been really wet here. My bright red gumboots are covered in sticky clay. Happy gardening! I just need to train them to play in the play room. Why, oh why, does Miss 2 insist on playing in whatever room I am in at the time? Sigh. Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 308May 13, 2015 9:34 pm Miss 2 sounds like my needy dog But I love it! Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 309May 13, 2015 9:36 pm TomCat Yeah, it's been really wet here. My bright red gumboots are covered in sticky clay. Happy gardening! I have red gumboot envy! I bought some cheapies from target before we slabbed the shed, and I could only get boring black in my size. And now they're covered in cement and mud, and look like traides boots. Surely this is good enough reason to buy shiny new red ones? Mr Charlston - are you reading this? I need red gumboots! TC agrees dont you? Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 310May 13, 2015 9:38 pm TC our fence is nearly done and the paving is done enough that I can nearly bring home my needy Labrador who has been dog sat by family members, and then she'll join in on the party too!

Bahahahha good luck I still haven't figured that one out, by the time I've gone around cleaning the house the two little boys have pulled everything out behind me. My personal shadows are called seek and destroy, the 3 year old seeks and the 18 month old destroys . Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 312May 13, 2015 9:45 pm Haha seek and destroy! You spelled their names wrong on your slab though Yeah I figured we aren't the only ones to have built a play room that doesn't get used! Solidarity! Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 313May 15, 2015 9:53 am A couple of progress pics... We've been going for Derelique (Zoolander) meets Farmyard chic for a landscaping theme, but slowly we're making progress! http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj551/emz763/DD080701-16D1-40EC-A04A-F6EABEE005AF_zpssx4h6hz1.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj551/emz763/CAE288C1-C3B8-4331-870A-5335F1A3908E_zpsae3e5wm9.jpg Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 314May 15, 2015 1:17 pm And then here is the back pavers: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Very happy with the pavers! I think they look great. The tradies have been awesome too (Rosewall Landscaping if you're in Adelaide and want a recommendation). They've done a great job, they quoted quickly and fairly, rocked up on time, have been efficient and good with communication etc. We got them to do storm water, paving, compact the base for the rainwater tank, connect up the rainwater tank and general levelling of the site. We'll roll Out the grass ourselves and maybe plant a couple of screening trees on the back fence, then the rest can wait until after winter. The pergola is about to go through council, so that's a couple of months away. Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 315May 15, 2015 1:24 pm Wow progress out front already ... Looking good LOL I did a quick snatch-grab for boots (Target) enroute to slab pour. I wanted boring black but none of them in MY size as I was on a desperate mission they had to do Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 317May 15, 2015 1:30 pm Thanks TC!! I'm a very happy with the result, partly because it means less mud coming inside! Haha, you went to target to buy black gumboots and came away with red. I went to target to buy red ones and came away with black. Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 318May 15, 2015 1:57 pm Yes, getting landscaping is a huge help in any attempts to keep the house clean. We rolled our lawn on ourselves as well as put in sprinklers after someone else prepped and levelled the area. Our grass is growing and looks nice and green so we are very happy Oh and with regards to kids I found that mine insisted on being with me too for the first few months but they now play in their own rooms and run around outside. I think it took them a while to feel safe in the house, hopefully the same will happen for you. We have not bothered buying nice furniture because of the seek and destroyers Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 319May 15, 2015 8:16 pm Have you done much in the garden Fairmont, or is it mostly just grass? Yeah I'm hoping mine will settle in to the house more and more. In the meantime, I'll just have to watch where I'm walking so I don't tread on all the toys left in hallways etc. we haven't bought much furniture yet either. They finished the paving, so I can't help posting a few more pics. http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj551/emz763/4558741A-DA80-4A2E-B638-B6629729CC59_zpsozxtbtho.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj551/emz763/39DA0FC1-29FB-4EC7-BF86-C16F2B2F6576_zpstn2iucqu.jpg loving the paving!! We're so happy with it. But I'm not heaps happy with the tradies that came through to fix stuff still from handover. The window guys brought the metal panel for the back door, this is their 4 visit to the house, and third attempt at bringing the correct part, and they STILL need to come back to replace the glass with huge scratch in it. 5 trips for one trade is a bit ridiculous. The painter didn't bring a ladder (weird, I know) and we didn't have one that would get him on top of the roof, so he still couldn't paint the downpipe that was missed & couldn't remove the rubbish they left on our roof (both shown in this pic) http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj551/emz763/8A3A99AA-4099-4F74-8F37-88A695CB0230_zpsa5xtijgx.jpg The insulation guy came and replaced the pigeon poo batts from the ceiling. Who'd have thought I'd be excited to have a faeces-free ceiling space? Yay! Although he rocked up whilst I was home, let himself into the ceiling space, and left without evening coming in to let us know he was here. Weird. Yes the roller door was open, but surely it's polite to introduce yourself at the door first? Or am I asking too much? Oh well, i am pleased it's done. So we've had some good progress this week, but still have some outstanding issues for handover, but they want us to deal with the maintenance team now, not with the SS, which is fine. Re: Building in SA with Dechellis: Moved in! 320May 15, 2015 8:27 pm Your home is beautiful and the paving compliements it so well. By the way very happy for you that all traces of the pigeon poo are gone.
