Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Render or Brick? 2Oct 20, 2014 12:37 am Well I selected render because I prefer the look of render. That said there are some very nice feature bricks as well. It all comes down to personal preference and dollars. Even my garages are rendered inside to give it a more finished look. Re: Render or Brick? 5Oct 20, 2014 8:18 am We went brick cos I like brick... and the lower maintenance... and if you really want render down the track you can add render whilst cleaning bricks of render would be more difficult Re: Render or Brick? 7Oct 20, 2014 8:23 am yvonneh We went brick cos I like brick... and the lower maintenance... and if you really want render down the track you can add render whilst cleaning bricks of render would be more difficult This was our thinking also. We picked a feature brick for our pillars, with the though that if we don't like it, we can easily have it rendered over. Turns out we really like the look of the brick and wont worry about it. Re: Render or Brick? 14Nov 22, 2014 2:48 pm Ditto horses for courses, but up in QLD, bricks are a poor thermal choice - they really suck the heat through - you can't put your hand on a brick wall on a warm day. And I've had instances when vermin crawl through these annoying weep holes - not a fan of hearing rats and mice in our walls and ceiling! Personally, I don't mind brick as a feature, around pillars, etc. But as a whole house, I think it looks a little dated - reminds me of the big brick homes built in the 70s.
