Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 11, 2012 11:26 am I am building a house with Long Island Homes, my parents selected a kind of brick called "Pressed Red" at the beginning, which now has been discontinued, they asked me to select a new one, unfortunately, I work 5 days a week and they do not work on weekend, and as the nature of my work, I cannot take half day off to go there and select another brick(my parents are not here and no relative can do it for me), as a result, I have to ask them to send me a list of bricks(images) and select one by just looking at the image. I'm not an expert in this field, below are my considerations: 1. Given the root is dark(blue+black), the color of the brick need to be light.(so we chose red) 2. I noticed there are small holes on some of the bricks, I think rain water will go into it and make its condition worse over time. 3. Some bricks have different colours of single brick, it does not offer an constant solid view when the house is built. The above is just my thoughts, now my questions are: 1. Are the brick names universal across the field, or are they just made by the brick company? Looks like the company is called Austral. 2. Am I right that if the brick has small holes (like moon surface) then rain water will make its condition worse over time? 3. What are the difference between each range apart from color? 4. Light color like light brown will become dirty/dark over time? 5. Can you suggest a brick for me? Thanks in advance! Re: Please help me re-select brick, selected one is disconti 2Mar 14, 2012 2:32 pm The brick manufacturers (Austral etc) maintain lists of homes built with their bricks. So you can call them and ask for a few addresses of houses built with red based bricks, then you can go and have a look at your leisure. I'd suggest doing this anyway, as I discovered a massive wall of red brick was just too much, and went for a brick that had more colour variation in it (more of the burnt\purple\gray bricks in with the red) H's Emperor Q1 on acreage Site cut 16/6/11 Slab 2/8 Frame 29/8 Tiles 9/9 Bricks 13/10 Plaster 2/11 Fittings 28/11 PCI 19/3 Caesarstone, quantum zero, Q Stone zero, porcelain.
