Now that I would like to see
Let me see here……..

1) Put in a brand new kitchen for a client, total make-over of a run down old home. Owner lives in Washington DC.
Came in one day to find the painter standing on the newly installed kitchen, no drop sheet, painting the cornice and ceiling!

Ten points for guessing what came out of MY mouth!!!!

2) Most young guys have V8 Utes, have Ute must have dog….dog does its business EVERWHER on site, Watch where you walk. No matter if it’s a reno, take dog anyway. Who cares if the owner of the home has an animal or two of their own, dog must come!!! Creates hell on site.

3) Toilet….better provide them with one, or they will do it anywhere…..of course, nature does call. Even if there is a toilet and it gets a little nasty, look out!

4) Chippy hammering nails into newly installed timber windows, every LAST hit he left a half penny mark from the hammer. Try getting that out to paint over! Painter wouldn’t care he just paints and leaves all the half pennies!!!!

5) 1 mill home I was doing totally inclusion on, the builder and his crew threw their food scrapes, drink bottles and anything else they had… on the floor. This home was at lock up stage, but still it looked like a tip! Owner pulled me aside one day to see if I could ask the builder, to talk to his boys about being tidier. Even with 3 bins in their
allotted meals area everything still went on the floor! Tiles had to be laid over the crap and stains they left on the floor.

5) My personal favourite…..decorator shows up…..everyone disappears! Does a runner while I inspect the **** everywhere, and the lack of concern for other people’s property. Only to then pull them all up and ask…..Please explain??!!!
Who cares….its not ours!!!!! NICE!

6) PAINTER- there’s a whole different book here. We all know SOME builders like to write on the gyprock walls with their pencils; I have been guilty of this in the past. Painter comes along, SOME PAINTERS…..paints their watered down paint on the walls, not even giving thought to do an extra coat over the writing all over the wall. So for the next ten years you get see what the builder wrote! I have even seen this on Architraves!!!

7) SOME TILERS – don’t worry about stepping out the floor tile space just lay them, lay wall tile half way across from floor tile….don’t worry about cutting the feature tile, just lay it. So we have floor tile off centre to wall tile, feature tile off centre to wall tile.
NASTY!!!!!

SO I guess you get my drift….as I have said before, don’t take your eyes off them!
we called a 'ceiling specialist' to come in and repair our heavily decorated 1910 bungalow lounge ceiling (very ornate but was dipping slightly due to age and weight).

The guy gives us a quote, comes in a few days later and drives 200 screws and 50 holes into the ceiling .. chipping off 1/3 of the ornate ceiling plaster. Breaks one of my ornaments, leaves broken plaster and nails all over the lounge and carpet. Before he leaves he crosses out the original quoted price (which was on our kitchen table) and adds a couple of extra hundred dollars

Hubby rings the guy and loses his temper over the phone. Guy rings me at work ... crying ... telling me he couldnt find the ceiling beams and so had to put more screws into the ceiling than expected. He promises to come back and fix the mess but hubby tells him he wouldn't let him fix the dog kennel roof.
Apparently you can buy some device which locates beams through walls/ceiling for about $30.

I'm gonna be watching our tradies like you wouldn't believe. Dont trust 'em. They don't want to push my buttons ... I'm as mean as a cut snake when aggravated

I'm sure it did!
I've heard they are pretty unreliable!

Actually (seriously) like any tool there are good and bad ones. If you are thinking of getting one, get a good one as it will save you a world of pain!
Got the black and decker one with the laser level built in. It's great!

And it even tells you where there are electrical cables in the wall so you dont go drilling into one of them!!

The bullseye, Yes it is great.

I even used it to level my back yard at night. Throws about 10 metres in each direction
Good idea....might have to start building our deck at night!

+1 for the bullseye i got one from my brother for a birthday i use it all the time. The other great thing is it highlights if a wall is straight or wavey because the laser has more or less intensity on certain parts if that makes sense. I think its worth about 100 bucks but i think a tradie should never miss a stud, they should either have the correct tool or be that friggen good they can practicle smell the stud to go into.
