Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 22, 2010 9:56 pm Hi guys Our bathroom is directly above our laundry and we are thinking of getting a laundry chute. It will incur a $1000 variation fee but we feel it may be still worth it. As it adds a bit of convenience and a "wow thats cool" factor when selling the house (if we do). What does everyone think? how much did it cost for you if you have one or going to get one? And how is it installed? into the walls? in your vanity? where do your clothes drop to? on a bench? in cupboard? on floor? Your input will be highly appreciated. Bee Villina with Trend facade Sydney Re: Did you get a laundry chute and how much did it cost? 2Apr 23, 2010 12:23 pm My Mum and Dad have one of these in their house. The entry to the shute is built into the benchtop of vanity and lifts up. There is then a door at the bottom the shute which can be opened so the clothes fall straight into the machine. My parents did not put it in, it was already installed, and with kids who are useless at putting their dirty clothes in a washing basket, it was an added bonus that appealled to them when they purchased the home. When they were looking to buy, they were looking at a couple of houses that were very similiar in layout, fittings, location and price and this was one of things that swayed them. I say go for it! Painting finished, time to tile! HANDOVER - THURSDAY 3RD MARCH 2011 Re: Did you get a laundry chute and how much did it cost? 3Apr 23, 2010 12:27 pm You got it cheaper than ours- whos your builder? We got ours for $1,380. I lived in a double storey home in my home ctry and lugging all that clothes up and down isnt worth it - put it in and it will serve you well. At least you are lugging it back one way instead of 2! Cream. Building The Amberlea 44 Fusion Home http://www.amberleadream.blogspot.com Land settled May 10!! Building commenced 30 Jun 10. Re: Did you get a laundry chute and how much did it cost? 4Apr 23, 2010 12:29 pm Our house is similar to yours - we did a drop from the bath to the laundry downstairs in the wall with melamaine fitted inside the internal walls and we had an extension of the laundry cabinents so when it gets removed from the chute, it goes directly on the cabinet top. Re: Did you get a laundry chute and how much did it cost? 5Apr 23, 2010 12:57 pm It worked out that our kitchen was over the laundry so we had one incorporated into the bottom half of a pantry. The hole had to be at waist height (Council rules) and is in melamine all the way down. The clothes land on the laundry bench where I have a roller door, the same as in the kitchen, to hide the clothes down there. This was included in our kitchen price, so I don't have figures. P.S. Wouldn't be without it Re: Did you get a laundry chute and how much did it cost? 6Apr 23, 2010 8:54 pm We considered putting one in but I had visions of master 5 sending the cat for a joy ride down the shute Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Did you get a laundry chute and how much did it cost? 8May 12, 2010 1:42 pm Hi Beebob, We've had one incorporated into our design. It will go from one of the upstairs bedrooms (daughters) down into the laundry. Again, an all melamine chute. Down in the laundry, it will be a separate door (1500mm high) in a kind of cupboard that is large enough to hold one of those tall stand-up laundry baskets so that clothes for both upstairs rooms can come down. The tender cost states $770.
