Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 81Sep 30, 2010 4:29 pm Went to get carpet and blind quotes today. Carpet I think is choosen- just a cheap carpet until boys are older but the colour suits tiles really well. Blinds hmmmm think we may be able to get all ready mades which makes it a fair bit cheaper- except for the staker doors. Anyone else got any good ideas for blinds or carpet??? Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 82Sep 30, 2010 6:48 pm For the blinds, check out Spotlight... we didn't want to go and get blinds custom made for our place until we have lived there for a while so we can be sure of what we want (I keep changing my mind between timber venetians, plantation shutters, roman blinds and curtains). Spotlight had ready to hang romans on sale a couple of months back for $40 a blind, so I got those for the bedrooms and playroom. I have also found a website called http://www.cheapablinds.com.au that have both custom made and ready to hang blinds, but with the ready to hang ones, they can trim them to suit, so even if they don't have the exact size you are after, they will alter it for $25, and they are really well priced. I had a couple of samples sent to me a while ago and was really happy with them... probably getting their ready to hang venetians for the bathrooms. Thinking I will probably get some ready to hang curtains from Spotlight and stick them up to begin with - I have all three kids birthday's, my birthday and Christmas, as well as packing this place up and unpacking at the new one in the next 3 months so I will worry about blinds later! With your stacker doors, what about the panel glide blinds? Carpets, we played it safe and went with grey. We went to Independant Carpets at Bennetts Green - found their service to be better than some of the others we went to, and a much better price too. Also, they gave us a quote in January, and when I contacted them to order it in September, they gave me the same price as they originally quoted, which I wasn't expecting. I would have thought it would have gone up by now. Your house is looking gorgeous by the way... Looks like you wound up with a good size yard! I still have to check Spotlight though- Thanks Nic might try there this afternoon. I was also looking up whether you could alter white timber venentians. Read on a woodcraft website that they are pretty easy to do with a drop saw and they look alright. I think ill go and buy a small size and get hubby to take over to his dads and have a go. if they look crappy then ill just pay the alteration fee. Also any hints on lighting?? I have been to Beacon but nothing caught my fancy. Also looked at Hunter Lighting world at W/Bay- huge range too, some different that I hadnt seen before. We are looking for 6 outdoor lights and for now two lights to hang over the kitchen bench. If your looking for lamps and lightshades Freedom have some beautiful ones too. Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 85Oct 08, 2010 6:49 am Hi Dannielle, Just got the latest Spotlight catalogue and they are having a sale on curtains until Sunday and there are some block out blinds for half price which don't look too bad. How did hubby go with SS yesterday? Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 86Oct 08, 2010 7:17 am Thanks Amanda, Ill have go and have a look! SS said have to get gyprock guy back out as a wall isnt square?? Tilers are due to do wet areas next week. Kitchen was installed yester day. We had asked the colour consultant not to have handles on the top cupboards- like the Calimo display kitchen- but we got handles. Had a look through paperwork and it dosnt say anything about the handles It looks ok but would have liked no handles. Ahhh well. Hows it all going??? Has your carpet been done??? Saw your drive is marked out! And no fences!!! You can look through the windows now hahaha Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 87Oct 08, 2010 12:56 pm Hi Dannielle, Have just PM'd you what's been happening with us, forgot to mention our drive way was poured today and the carpets should go in next week I think. Your house is looking great and your hand over letter shouldn't be too far away (think ours came when painting almost finished) Amanda Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 88Oct 08, 2010 1:07 pm Looks great Danielle! Love how shiny the cupboard doors are. What type of driveway did you go for Amanda? Our's should be getting poured today as well... but we blew it with our's... we had the option of exposed aggregate, pavers or broom finished concrete, so we went with the broom finished thinking it was coloured. Turns out it isn't -it's just plain concrete. They can add a colour to the concrete before they lay it though but that will cost around $1000 more, or they can paint it for an extra $500 or so, but we are thinking we will just leave it as plain concrete for now and get it pattern stamped in a year or two when the bank account has recovered a bit. Might get the alfresco done at the same time that way. I think we will be the only ones up there with plain grey concrete though . Saw your fences down the other day as well!! When is your handover date? Any pictures? Let is get marked and stained and then cover it in 12 months!!! Especially with cars not quite fitting in shed when you first move in- well that will be us! Ours is cement with a dark grey pattern- but now looking at the pattern I dont like it! Thats what happens when you choose 8 months earlier. LOL We are finally at the good end of the journey- we will have to have a BBQ when we are all in to celebrate! Oh and a looksee in eachothers houses- or is that just me being a nosey parker!! hahaha Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... The lady did say you can cut them to size but I'm not that crafty so will have to get them made up. Apparently the sale is on tomorrow as well. Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 92Oct 10, 2010 7:53 pm hi Danielle! I finally found your thread... I should stop torturing myself looking at your lovely Sorbetto bricks (not sure if you saw on my other threads - we decided PGH Cement due to being better suited for Moroka). sigh... your bricks looks great in the bushland setting. Good luck. And with your blinds / curtains too. That discount that Amanda got sounded like a bargain! All painting finished, all wet areas tiled, electrical all finished. Bath, toilets are ready to be installed. Looks great, i am loving the paint colour! one minor prob- wrong bench tops! We had asked could we have a PCV to change from original stone colour but tile shop had no samples of the new colour so we decided just to stay with original. PCV was not signed and I got an email to confirm this. Go there today and the second colour was installed! SS rang stone place and that what was on their order form. I have rang sales team and am seeing what is going to happen. Still not sure of handover date yet- got to be soon!!! Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Retaining walls and landscaping Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 95Nov 04, 2010 8:10 am Hey Danielle, Any letter news yet? Saw the cleaners black van yesterday next door to you - surely yours must be soon? Even though it's taken some time I guess one positive with building with them is your front yard will be done so at least it will look respectable from the road (also their finishes are really good and they seem to do a quality job - we've been in a week now and have had no problems, touch wood) Will PM you later to arrange a time to catch up if you want? Amanda Re: Building our Mirvac Granton in 2010 96Nov 04, 2010 3:39 pm Nope nothing Amanda!! Everything is done inside now I think- floor tiling should be finished today or tomm, painting was finished ages ago yet still no letter. We thought it would be good to be building at the same time as next door but I dont think so for either of us!!! Im imagining we will have handover 2nd week of December- 2 weeks before contract ends! Im over the whole thing- waiting til we get the letter so I can get excited again! Are you loving living there??? I have been thinking about that and after all this time how is it going to be actually living there!!! Im PM you as I want to pick your brain on telephone connections and all that jazz!!! House looks great! Love your kitchen, can't wait to see pics of everything all finished. Good luck with the rest of the build, hope you're all settled before xmas of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them.
