Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Coral Hamilton 252 - Looking more like a house!! 101Aug 18, 2010 5:53 pm Well, it's been two weeks today since the slab went down. Since then... Frame has gone up Sarking installed in the roof Roof tiles laid Windows & sliding doors installed Bricks delievered Wrapping done Electrical rough in done Air con ducts and roof unit installed Gas pipes installed Water pipes installed Gyprock delivered Insulation batts delivered Frame installed for the bath, and the bath is already in it! I went to the house yesterday to meet the electrician, and when I got there, there was 2 electricians, 2 gasfitters, 4 plumbers and I think 2 insulation guys, so at the one time, there was around 10 guys working onsite. I spoke to the SS today and he has said that the bricks get started on Friday, gyprock gets started on monday. Painter comes in on the 2nd of September and the tiler starts on the 14th of September. So impressed with Coral right now! Too dark to take photo's, but almost all of the gyprock is in, just needs to get tidied up a bit. Brick's were started at the end of last week and should be finished by this time next week. We have just put our current place on the market and have our first open house on Saturday afternoon - fingers crossed for a reasonably quick sale!! Any more progress? Yep! It honestly feels like if we don't go there each day we miss something . Went for a quick drive past this morning and the brickies were just about finished - they were working on the last part of the front wall, so that will hopefully be done later today or tomorrow. Painter starts tomorrow and the kitchen get's delivered either late this week or very early next week. Carpenter is there either today or tomorrow to do things like build shelves in the wardrobes and pantry / hang doors etc. Tiler starts on the 14th, which is two weeks from yesterday to tile the bathroom's and laundry floor and the kitchen splashback and aside from that, all that we can think of to get done is to install the permenent downpipes, lay the drive way and get the electrician back to get the power points / lights etc done (we are doing the floor coverings ourselves after handover). And they also have to install all of the fly screens and screen doors... At this rate, it is possible that we may be finished by the end of THIS MONTH . I honestly can't rate Coral highly enough right now. Will go up there for a sticky when DH get's home and get some photo's of our beautiful bricks. Saw on your thread that you have had your site scrape done... any word yet on the slab? (I am so in love with your block BTW). Site scrape was done last week and we werent going to go out to the block till the weekend but now we cant wait so we will go up after work today and hopefully the slab will be down. Fingers crossed I have heard many good things about Coral and we were looking at building through them but they didnt build in our area. LOCKED OUT!!!! Never been so happy to see a locked door in my life. Fortunatley, Coral allow us to have a site key so we can go onsite whenever we want to have a look around, so we went for a wander and found.... A kitchen!!!! Not yet installed, but it's all there, ready and waiting. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Can't really see much as there is bubble wrap all over the bench top, but you get the idea. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also have our bathroom vanity's (again, can't see much, but the dark grey part is the benchtop) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our pretty front door - will have a merbau stain and a lever style handle Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And from inside Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bricks pretty much finished Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also have about half a house worth of skirting boards and architraves and all of the cornices have been done. Some internal doors have been hung, the rest should be done today / tomorrow. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So, now I need some advice. DH noticed on the wall oven tower there is a little chunk missing from the laminate. Crappy photo (will go back later today and see if I can get a better one), but am after some opinions about what we should do... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It is roughly at eye height, or a little lower, but most of it seems to be on the side, with only a smaller mark on the front. The side that the gash is on will be right up against the pantry wall, so it won't be seen, but I am a bit concerned about the bit on the front. Do you think we should report it to our site supervisor and have it repaired / replaced? Or do we just wait and see how it looks when it's in? Like I said, majority of it, fortunatley the worst part, will be attached to the pantry wall and will be out of sight, and I just don't know if the front part is bad enough that it warrants the time and effort involved in having it fixed. However, I am worried that the fact that I know it's there will bug me for as long as this kitchen is in. Thoughts please??? Next up on the timeline... finish the skirting boards / architraves etc, finish shelves in the pantry / wardrobes etc, finish hanging doors, painter (was booked to start today but I am thinking that if the skirting boards etc haven't been finished, the painter probably couldn't start yet). Install the kitchen / bathroom vanities etc. Tiler is booked for 14th of September (less than 2 weeks off), and then lay the driveway and install the permenent downpipes and the garage door. What else have I missed? We are organising the floor coverings ourselves after handover... anything else? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My kitchen has been installed I have said it before and I am sure I will say it again... I cannot believe how quick this is happening. As an added bonus, the not so great edge on the laminate is not visible. It's right up against the pantry wall and completley out of sight, and the adhesive / grout stuff (no idea what that's called) totally covers it up. They also took the cover of the vanity so we could see how it looks... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So happy with that. Also today, they almost finished the skirting boards and architraves - all that's left to do there is finish the skirting board in the kitchen and the lounge room, put the shelves in the WIR and the pantry and finish the architrave around a couple of doors. They also got 2/3 of the eaves done today. Carpenter should be finished tomorrow so the painter can start soon. Actually starting to get excited about this - starting to feel a bit more real. People keep asking me if I would ever build a house again or if it's too much stress to be bothered about again. I would happily build another house on the condition that I NEVER have to sell a house again. And we are only up to one week on the market. God only knows how long this will take. We have someone coming over for a look at 1pm today and another open house tomorrow morning, so I should get off the computer and get cleaning... Unfortunatley for me, I am by no means a domestic goddess, so this whole keeping the house immaculate game does not come naturally. Really wish it did, but it doesn't. How's your place going? Hi Nic, Hope you survived your open house today, I agree - would rather build than go through that again!!! As for the inside of ours the plastering is pretty much done (apart from afew cornices which SS said would be finished off on Monday). Apparently next week it will be all happening - front & garage doors will go on, kitchen installed and tilers will start. We checked out the new little park today and the kids can't wait to go back with their bikes and scooters. Seems like a fair few blocks have sold up there already and most seem fairly flat (although going through this whole process looks can be deceiving with the cut/fill they do seems like nearly all of us will have retaining to do!!!) Newcastle really is nothing more than a big village - everyone seems to know everyone else. Were you up at your house on Saturday afternoon at about 4ish? We were killing time while people were looking through our current house so were up at Hidden Waters and I was behind a dark 4WD with private plates with your hubby's initials... I was going to wave, but thought if it wasn't you, I might look like a crazy stalker (well, more than normal anyway!). amanda jane We checked out the new little park today and the kids can't wait to go back with their bikes and scooters. Thinking it might be time to get thinking about a feature tile... nothing like leaving things to the last minute I guess. DH was at the house today and he said the floor in the wet areas had been levelled and prepped today, so the tiler can just get stuck in tomorrow. As far as we can tell, the only things left to do now are: finish eaves (2/3 done) install garage door tile wet areas and splashback paint install appliances install vanities / laundry tub plumber to put taps on / connect taps to vanities / connect water tank fly screens and screen doors (had to be done by Coral due to bushfire classification) driveway install permenent downpipes get electrician back to put power points / batten thingys for the lights / garage door opener / our pretty front door lights etc on builder to put the door handles on install WIR / ensuite doors Then after handover, we get the carpet / floating floors laid (already ordered and ready to go) and get some form of fencing sorted (which is a whole other mess in itself ). Will also get a patio roof (one of the gabled colourbond ones) installed straight after we move in so the dogs have some shelter as well. I honestly can't think of anything else to be done.
