Browse Forums Building A New House Major reno in the 'burbs - stairs in 41Nov 13, 2009 1:43 pm happy to say this was a relatively smooth part. My builder asked me if I wanted raisers or not as apparently it did not affect the costing either way. Had to research what they actually were! I came back with - no raisers! Liked the look. Guess what he in turn came back and the stair supplier wanted to charge an extra $5K for stairs WITHOUT raisers .... guess what we went with! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This was the only contractor we brought in due to some pricing confusion. Needless to say I had to micro manage the floor installers and their interaction with the builder as the builder decided he was not having a bar of it and he was not responsible for these guys in any way (having said we still incurred the 15% builder's margin on it from the builder) All I heard was "he said" this and "he said" that, I do not do this and I do not do that, that is his job... you get the picture... I felt like I had two extra children to manage finally got our floors. So now we have bamboo on top and brushbox elsewhere: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ resolution: if I do this again I must be clear on the lines of accountability PS: whilst doing the floor the floor guy left a window open at the end of the day, with a total downpour during that night. We had water on the floor in the room below. Ofcourse they replaced the floor boards and the rubber but how do you check if the rockwool on the ceiling has been compromised??? According to the floor guy - if we get mould coming through the ceiling - he will replace all the rockwool & the gyprock ... you think? progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Major reno in the 'burbs-undercroft area 43Nov 13, 2009 2:03 pm progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: Major reno in the 'burbs-overdue update-with pics!! Pix thanks Pix, I am not sure I would say I am brave - it was more a case of: - selling/buying elsewhere would not have got us the space we needed - DH was pushing for it - took me at least six years to bite the bullet and do this I am so happy to have people's feedback and interest - it gives me an indication if we are on the right track Thanks, Lisanne, yes, the transformation is amazing! I am sure not everyone here might agree but it makes me want to do this again! It is almost a shame the end is near Kek, I would have LOVED to knock and build fresh. It would have been WAY cheaper!!Couldn't do it as: - we have a sloping AND narrow block - our whole southern side is ON the boundary and we could never build on the same spot, making the house even narrower - couldn't find ANY project home builder willing to work in our council!
