Plaster soon. Things start to feel like a home when the plaster is hung and stopped out. When can we expect some electrical? Looks as though they are ready (by the tools and boxes on the upper floor). Is your builder battening your ceilings or going direct fix? (for plaster). Re: Our Dream Home 84May 29, 2007 10:45 pm Ooops, forgot something.
Make sure that your plumber nails in some noggings to support your shower rail/s. Otherwise they (the shower rail) will be fixed to the tiles and plaster/villaboard (whichever they use) and that will lead to trouble down the track. And don't forget some noggings for the shower screen to fix to. Sorry to be a pain. Re: Our Dream Home 86May 31, 2007 10:00 pm With plastering the ceiling, you usuall have a couple of options.
1. Direct fix (what most of the volume builders do), where the plaster is fixed/screwed straight onto the underside of the timber. 2. Batten fix, where the plasterers (or builders) apply metal channels to the underside of the timber to then screw the plaster to. Batten fix costs a little more but gives you a better finish as they are usually applied level for a flat ceiling. Direct fix isn't as forgiving when it comes to movement (and within the first 12 months there will be some movement), whereas the battens can. Your builder will know if they have allowed for battening of the ceilings. H Re: Our Dream Home 88Jun 12, 2007 1:40 pm sorry...sorry....had relatives visit...all gone now!!!! Regarding the ceiling Hennig this is what the builder said - Upstairs Batten (wider plaster boards 900), downstairs (narrower 450) direct fix. Not sure if its good or bad or okay? What else should we look out for? the plaster is up...will post pics next... Thanks again for your valuable input.... Re: Our Dream Home 92Jun 12, 2007 4:54 pm A silly question but I am gonna ask anyway...do we have to request for a peephole in our front door? I always thought it would come with it seeing it is a front door... and we dont have glass panels on either side... Re: Our Dream Home 94Jun 12, 2007 5:05 pm Tam didn't you order one of those door monitors? That's what I would get. yes we did but I was just thinking if I am in my bedroom which is very near to the front door, I may have to run into the kitchen to check the monitor to see who it is.... Re: Our Dream Home 96Jun 15, 2007 8:10 pm Looking good
I am jealous..... footpaths on both sides of the street! Over here you only get them on one side if you are lucky...... where we are living now we have none.... great fun when the kids are riding to school. I love the soaker bath..... its giving me ideas...... I just dont think we could afford it Re: Our Dream Home 97Jun 16, 2007 9:02 am monkeyupatree Looking good I am jealous..... footpaths on both sides of the street! That would be some ** town planning right there. So, like, where do you guys walk - like, on the road? [sneakersss] Re: Our Dream Home 98Jun 16, 2007 10:12 am Most outer developments now only have footpaths on one side of the street.
This allows for more blocks in each stage??? Re: Our Dream Home 99Jun 16, 2007 1:26 pm YSSIM Errr, where does one find a place that doesn't have footpaths? That would be some ** town planning right there. So, like, where do you guys walk - like, on the road? In perth (suburbs), and most places have a path on one side only. On our street we have a park opposite us (so no path), the little courts that are close by dont have any either. And yes we need to walk on the road, ride on the road, or push prams on the road. Lucky there is a footpath around the corner, that goes right to the school. Re: Our Dream Home 100Jun 18, 2007 8:39 am YSSIM,
When we lived in NSW, we found a place that we would love to live called "Pearl Beach" and one of the key features of the area was the lack of footpaths (together with the beach and nature). Houses on a couple of streets that had just road edging were sold for a lot less. Other places I have lived, have not had footpaths and locals resist having them put in. Different places, different needs. Where I am building now doesn't have footpaths and I am really happy with it. In fact, none of the streets I have built in have had footpaths. That said, some people want and need paths and I am happy with that. 3xb We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
