I know that my version will not be as technical as his (Mark, feel free to add your fancy words if you like ) but hopefully it gives everyone an idea of what we have been doing around the house - or lack there of . It definitely is a working progress. We unfortunately both have expensive tastes so it may take a bit longer than we would like for it to be complete. The retaining walls are going to take up most of the cost but once they are done, the rest shouldn't be too hard. If you are like me, you will be hanging for grass. The cleaning involved when there is dirt around is ridiculous. Oh, that makes me feel a little better about our landscaping budget now (although I have a feeling that it's not going to be the only high cost part of our backyard). It's nice to know that we can tick off one of the big things soon. Re: Our Prosperity in Spring Farm...PICS AS PROMISED!!! 770Mar 25, 2010 10:41 am After getting off to a shaky start with the stonemill's machines broken down, it seems the the ball is now well and truely rolling with operation: retaining walls. Everything has now been delivered and Mark is getting eager to start in the backyard. It will be great to see how they turn out. I'm going to use the same type for my wall. I've taken an extra week off after Easter so hopefully I'll have some fine weather to get mine done. Who did your flyscreen? I'm looking for a cassette type like that for my front door. Rgds Leonard. I kinda like the bushrock better but Mark wasn't too keen on them. I am sure they will be fine. What colour are you going for? Mark actually did all of our flyscreens. He is definitely a handy man to have around, if only I could clone him . As for what it is, I have no idea, I am just the artistic director after all . Hope to see some pics of your place soon. How funny, I too looked at the bush-rock and said no to it in favor of the charcoal. Re: Our Prosperity in Spring Farm...PICS AS PROMISED!!! 774Mar 25, 2010 4:52 pm Hi Leonard, I got the flyscreen from alspec, they are out in Horsely Park, near Eastern Creek. They are around about $400 inc GST and will do up to 2400x1500 from memory. If you are interested in one let me know, I can get you a bt of a discount with my account. As for the retaining walls, man my wrists are killing me from the digging. I dug the last 8m or so of footing, and dug the ones I did with the excavator a bit wider and deeper all by hand. Machine is by far and away easier. If anyone else is thinking of doing this, do yourself a favour, hire a 3 tonne excavator for a weekend and dig the footings with it, so much easier! Its not hard to drive one either! I had to dig about 7 mtrs by hand that the bobcat just couldn't reach. It took some time but I have got it done and I'm ready to move onto the road-base foundation and whacker pack it all down level and lay out my bedding sand. Got to get my Ag pipe and plumbers gravel yet and then I'm ready to start blocking. Re: Our Prosperity in Spring Farm...PICS AS PROMISED!!! 777Mar 25, 2010 9:07 pm http://www.masonryandslate.com.au/?showPage=HOME got them for $8.80 per block. The landscape place up the road from me sells Tasman's and couldn't match my price. Re: Our Prosperity in Spring Farm...PICS AS PROMISED!!! 779Mar 28, 2010 4:13 pm Hi fee, Ur place is coming along, I am over the moving of soil it's finished now ready for the turf next weekend. Pool is not finished i am over it and the pool builder i dont know what to do to get him moving and the warm weather is almost gone so really dont care anymore. But with any luck it will be finished soon. Going to have a edging company come and give us a quote on garden edging so hoping that will be done soon too. Anyway i will look forward to seeing your new walls Re: Our Prosperity in Spring Farm...PICS AS PROMISED!!! 780Apr 10, 2010 8:06 pm So its been a few weeks, but I haven't had a chance to upload some pics. It actually only took a day and a half or so to do the wall out the back, its almost finished, just need to put a few small pieces in to finish it off, but I will wait till I get the front done and use any offcuts for that. The walls are pretty easy to make, just make sure the footing is level. I used straight road base, and mixed in a few bags of cement with it, lightly hosed it before compacting it level with a whacker. Then I used a thin layer of metal dust mixed 10:1 with cement for a final bed to lay the first course. I didn't take any pics during the process, just at the end of each day, was kind of busy! First two courses, the steps will go at the open section at the bottom of the photo Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is where we plan to have a veggie garden in the future Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Filling the blocks with aggergate. There is still another retaining wall to be done across the entire back of the block, I'll be doing this out of timber as it won't be seen, we are planning on putting a hedge in front of it.
