It's purchasing and laying 183sqm turf with topsoil And purchasing, making beds for and planting these plants below. Nothing too complicated. He brought us to the nursery to help choose plants, explain ideas etc and seems like he will do a good enough job. Nice guy. He did our tree removal for us. When he removed the trees he was very particular not to damage the gum trees when he trimmed them so he does take care with his work. He's also gone and done a bit of garden bed work for an elderly relative of ours and seems reliable. Are you getting the landscapers to do anything structural? I'm dreading our landscape quote when it gets organised (after plans). Fair bit of retaining, necessary drainage, plus some structural dog fencing internally that I want to look nice. Might have to just get them to do the structure then do the gardening bits ourselves :/ Re: custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 144Sep 17, 2015 5:12 pm PVBuild Hey Leksie, your block is around the 510sqm mark? Our build doesn't allow for removal of spoil but hopefully we can just kind of contour it about the place (?!), our slope is only about 1.2 metres so not like yours. Re: custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 146Sep 17, 2015 5:59 pm PVBuild Oh nice getting them to do the retaining, good work. Might try and get some of ours done at scrape time. Yeah we don't have a lot of retaining so was just easier. In practise with a few things in Newvastle, small town. you can find the subbies will give their regular clients such as the builder a far better price than us as your average customers. So the builder can load it in and still put a margin on top but it won't cost us much more than paying someone as a cashie. We found that with our demolition. We asked the builder to reduce their original quote and they brought it down quite a bit, trimmed some of their margin off and it was only 1500 more than us paying someone. They know the builder and want to protect their regular work. For that sort of difference it wasn't worth it to us to have the headache. For landscaping, driveway, side paths, carpet we are doing it all ourselves afterwards. Re: custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 147Sep 17, 2015 8:02 pm I hope your landscaping is not too expensive. We are doing the landscaping ourselves. It would be prohibitively expensive to get someone else to do it because our yard is so steep and requires a lot of retaining. Luckily my FIL is pretty handy with this kinda stuff and knows a lot about plants. custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 148Sep 17, 2015 10:53 pm Abztronic I hope your landscaping is not too expensive. Luckily my FIL is pretty handy with this kinda stuff and knows a lot about plants. We know so little about it although I know we could rope people in to help us. We got hugely expensive quotes but in the end found this small garden and tree business and they will lay turf; do some plants to get us started with a working garden for a reasonable price. You are lucky to have someone knowledgable to help you. Re: custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 149Sep 18, 2015 8:40 am We are pretty lucky. Before joining this forum. I never knew that landscaping was so expensive It's a killer, we had quotes for around 25,000 from some places. No way we wanted to spend that just wanted to make it acceptable to start with. Our upper limit was 10k max, we have been quoted 7 for the work. custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 152Sep 18, 2015 9:32 am PVBuild That is really reasonable. Pays to shop around then doesn't it - will definitely do that when we get our landscape plans. Yes it does, of course it depends what you are after but we figure with landscaping it can be changed over time and we just need a base to start with. It's hard to decide where to spend the money but we wanted to concentrate on more permanent items first. custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 153Sep 18, 2015 10:45 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Working on the floor for the upstairs room today, a little ahead of schedule. Weather is glum though so I don't know how much they will get done. In the background are some of the trusses for the skillion roof. We've also picked up the samples for our bathroom tiles and are happy with the choices. Hard to tell in the pic, there is a gloss white which will be on the walls. It has a very light touch of beige to soften it. The floor and some of the walls is a neutral beige in a lapato (semi matte) finish with some texture through it. They will be 600 x 600mm. Quite safe choices but we wanted something that would stand the test of time. The gloss bounces nicely off the lapato. Our tiles have this finish also and they look really lovely laid. I just posted across on my post but I'm very sorry I have forgotten to look at the name of that basin. I think it might be the Caroma Contura 530 - and the depth is 340mm so it might work for you? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76666 our custom build on 25 acres Re: custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 155Sep 18, 2015 10:51 pm What a great idea going to the nursery with the guy. Im going to google the plants he suggested/you picked I keep looking at gardens as I drive around and wish there was an application that I could submit a photo to and it showed me what the plant was called.... anyone out there know if there is?? Next step is asking the local nurseries of course. Please keep posting pictures of your landscaping when you get to it custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 156Sep 18, 2015 11:14 pm cat_dunc What a great idea going to the nursery with the guy. Not far from you I don't think.. I might have noticed where your build is! , don't worry am not scary or anything.. Yes I think they are all pretty durable straightforward plants.. They'd have to be with us! This is a teddy bear magnolia.. Obviously pruned in a way we never will.. ️ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ These are the dragon plants to go in front of the porch.. Yeah I'd say anyone who really wanted to know could probably work out it's location Does it mean you know someone on our street? And good job adding those photos on tapatalk! Re: custom KDR - Newcastle NSW - floor and framing up! 158Sep 19, 2015 12:41 am Teddy bear is great. We've been recommended that before as a nice lower maintenance but beautiful flowering plant. But that pic is like a banzai tree! Impressive! Another thing we've been told before is to budget c. $100k for landscaping and finishing. That seems ridiculous!? Perhaps they had been thinking of super flash houses but there's no way I can allocate that much to landscaping and plants! I just love the scent of magnolias so hopefully we get some of thar. 100k is insane, of course like anything you can spend as much as you like.. I guess if it included structural work, retaining, driveways etc but even then.. Ours isn't including our retaining its literally just levelling off some beds and planting then laying turf. The biggest challenge will be if you take out a loan and then run out of money - you'll have an incomplete security and lenders do not like this so you can get stuck.… 2 20092 Hi, I am looking into doing a KDR in Melbourne and am contemplating using Kialla Homes. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 14238 |
