Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1101Oct 09, 2012 7:13 am Thanks guys, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who second guesses everything! The Rise - your house looks amazing, you must be so pleased. I love all your colour choices, esp. the kitchen & bathroom. Look forward to seeing the outside Smorgzzz - your house has been progressing really well, have they given you an expected completion date? I LOVE your stairs!! And the extended kitchen bench is great. Can't wait to see the benchtops and tiles go on! Jen - good news about the electrical appointment. Hopefully you will have a slab down soon! Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1102Oct 09, 2012 7:50 am jo0807 - Thanks - we have been told mid/late November to be in. The kitchen bench is standard, we just added the waterfall. I think because the display home has the smaller bench I didn't realise how long it is. It looks smaller on the plans. We have a join in our caesarstone, but it's not very noticable and it cuts down the centre of the sink. Edited to add - Just reading your blog Jo and with your lower feature ceiling to entry, make sure your supervisor makes it as per the display home. Ours has to be changed, as it's too low over the stairs and although we're shorties, our supervisor has to duck to go up and down the stairs! You've also got the same carpet as us and bricks! Can't wait to see your place!! There was a little confusion around some of ours but they were very understanding and helpful with changes right up until the last one been a couple of days before the slab was laid! I had a look at your blog and absolutely love your colours!! Very similar to the scheme that I want once we look at rendering etc Jen - Not long now Starlite - good luck with the ponds! Finger crossed for you THE RISE!! - Hello! can't wait to see more photos of your lovely home! I can't believe that it's been 8 weeks either! We are still at the bricking stage :/ they started last Tuesday and apparently scaffolding will go up this Thursday for them to start the second floor Hopefully they come and fix your bricks soon! Dont let up on it Smorgzzz - have you looked to see if there are non gloss/slippery versions of your tiles? Ours come in a few different finishes in case people want to do exactly that with them Would love to see your splashback My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1104Oct 09, 2012 3:30 pm Tarsha - Our tiles have an outdoor version too, he's just decided he would prefer travetine... maybe once TheRise has had her tiles laid and has taken a heap of photos to show us, he'll change his mind I'll try and get some photos of the kitchen splashback. It looks very rustic. I showed a friend this morning and he asked if it was rusted iron!! Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1105Oct 09, 2012 3:35 pm Jo - we found colours to be great as well. I went back and forwards with the sink. Really wanted a square above mount sink to get away with not paying to undermount it. We chose one sink as it saved $400, and then I went back and changed it. DH still tells everyone that we speak to about the house that my sink and tap is nearly worth $2000. The Rise - more pics more pics. Hopefully they fix your bricks soon. Smorgzzz - have a look on gogos thread, she has posted pics of her travatine tiles around the pool. Had an email from Maree this morning. They have received our DA and CC in the post today. They have emailed me a copy of the DA plans to go to the bank so they can issue the authority to commence. Maree said they need this within 2 weeks, so hopefully they will start sooner than the 4 weeks. We went to Sea World this morning and left at lunch to go to a great bamboo nursery. We love the Pandanus trees that they have on the Gold Coast Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We managed to get one from the bamboo nursery in Jan, It was in the clearance $200.00 down to $50 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We had to take it home in the back of the car tickling the kids the whole way. There was one more there which we couldnt fit in the car last time. Luckily it was still there when we went today, it is bigger than the one we bought in Jan, this one in a 100 litre bag, and it was only $50.00 again. So the kids will have a fun trip home in the car. We also bought 10 x bamboo plants and 5 x bangalow palms to block out the neighbours house. We have 115m boundary and want to block about 60 metres of it. It wont cover even half of what we need to do, but it will have to do until our next trip to QLD. We had an email this morning saying that it will be rectified. Phew! I knew we were right. Hope it doesn't delay the tiling in the bathroom. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1107Oct 10, 2012 2:58 pm good news...hubby n i survived the cruise even better news we also survived COLOURS!!!! Julie was great, so helpful and informative and wasn't sales orientated which we loved...fingers crossed we may be even getting away with a few "complimentaries" but like many of us on here I have been second guessing the bathroom choices, in my head I was wanting to have the tiling as the wow feature but now not so sure... jo0807 - we are building in GF too, eagerly awaiting our rego which should be in the next 4-8 weeks...all bits crossed for that one, just wanna get going Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1108Oct 10, 2012 3:14 pm belle n dave good news...hubby n i survived the cruise even better news we also survived COLOURS!!!! So good at colours and so willing to help with all the bits and pieces and as you said 'complimentaries' oooops, we're NOT supposed to say that! lol Building The Benham 29 in The Ponds With Rawson Homes http://buildingwithrawson.blogspot.com.au/ Site Start 13/2/13 Handover 7/8/13 Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1110Oct 10, 2012 8:29 pm belle n dave good news...hubby n i survived the cruise even better news we also survived COLOURS!!!! Our plans are now with Investa for approval. Can anyone tell me what the process is once you finalise colours. I assume we will be booking in our electrical appointment soon, are the construction plans drawn up after all the electrical stuff is finalised? Also, when is the construction certificate issued and how soon after this does building usually start? Thanks Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1111Oct 10, 2012 10:31 pm Jen - Very nice plants! good luck to the kids on the trip home haha Smorgzz that is fantastic about the shower belle and dave - so you have to spill the goss on the colour selections and the cruise (what are the complimentories?) Jo - construction certificate is after plans are out of council and they are meant to start within 20 days of it been issued Update for us - First floor bricks have finished, scaffolding goes up tomorrow however they only have a pallet and a half of bricks left.. Hopefully more delivered tomorrow so they can keep going. DH is hoping they let us keep the bricks that they have been discarding to do something in the garden with them lol does anyone know how they go with this? There are a fair few that only have tiny little chips etc that they are getting rid of My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1112Oct 11, 2012 4:35 am Tarsha - Exciting to see the scaffold go up! Not sure about the bricks, we didn't keep any. Our rainwater tank got plumbed in yesterday, the tap on our back wall is rainwater. More tiling done yesterday and I'm sure they'll be tiling the rest of this week and into next week too. And our progress payments x 2 finally went through yesterday, BW has been very slow doing the valuation. 90% is paid now, ouch but yay! I'm sure if you stacked the ones you want in an out of the way corner & put a 'we want to keep these please' sign on them the site cleaners/brickies would love you! Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1114Oct 11, 2012 5:51 am The neighbours behind us building with EB have stacked the waste bricks in the corner to keep. Once you sign off on your internal selections, the plans go back to drafting if you made changes, then after that your electrical appointment. Once you sign off on your electrical, they will do contracts, when your DA is approved, they apply for construction certificate and then as per the contract construction starts max 20 working days after. Tarsha maybe tell your SS that you want to keep your bricks. The house across the road from us that is being build had two pallets and a stack, but they were all thrown out. It was probably close to 1,000 bricks. Smorgzzz - great progress as usual. Hoe did you get on with your rental inspection. We got some more plants yesterday. Found a person in Brisbane selling Cycads. Ended up getting 4 huge ones for $190. They would be worth $200 each. If I could get more home I would have bought more - the good thing is it just means another holiday to buy more. Have you guys gone through council yet??? (sorry if I have missed the response) I was under the impression that you go before the etstate design board, get there approval and then go to council...which can take up to 6 weeks... Externals: Main and column Brick - Boral Grays Point Moroka - Murkey Water Cladding - Down Pipes, Guttering, Fascia and Windows - Woodland Grey Driveway - Colourthru Concrete - Charcoal Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1117Oct 11, 2012 12:03 pm Colours so far... Complimentaries: move internal gas point to alfresco Widen Pantry, Provide narrower double doors to kitchen cupboards, rather than large doors Waterfall effect to island bench I (using Polytec Sheen not Caesarstone) All of the above were discussed with our CSO and she provided costs to them all, Julie advised they would be complimentry Credits: No feature walls, no wall niches, no water purifier - we were told by our CSO that no credits would b given for these but Julie said she would get a $$$ back Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1118Oct 11, 2012 4:18 pm Belle and Dave, we moved the gas point to the alfresco area as well and this was complimentry. We had a second colour on the stairs. The ballustrade is one colour and the spindles are another colour - this was complimentry as well. We deleted the water purifier as well. We had one in our last house and didnt really use it, I think visitors found it more of a novelty, we got $180.00 credit for this. Put it towards the sink. Rainy day on the Gold Coast today. We went to Movie World today again so DD could see the stunt show. Tomorrow it is our last day, so it is back to Sea World and to pick up our Pandanus plant. We left once it started to rain. On our way home we stopped at a nursery and we managed to get 6 spiky agave plants for $4 each. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This adds to the haul of plants that are coming back with us Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ QLD is cheap for plants. We are going to have to come back once the house is finished so we can get some more. Or a good way to keep them quiet, threaten them if they play up on the trip home they'll have to hold the spikey plants! We had a few complimentary items and credits back, delete doors to bathroom upstairs & pantry & provide square set opening. Complimentary items were obviously the caesarstone benchtops, frame upgrade & increase of tender period by 30 days because our land wasn't registered, hills home hub, change of two windows upstairs, selection of a brick that wasn't in their range but was the same price, increase height of fridge space, mitred joint to waterfall edge, linen cupboard with a 600mm wide broom section, relocate gas point and the choice of stain to the stairs. We also made our feature wall the hardest wall in the house to paint, the wall going up and around the stairs!! I'm looking forward to the water purifier, I am sure the cat will be love having his water bowl filled with purified water.... only the best for my cat! lol Our second last progress payment went through last night, so we're sitting at 90% paid! Hoping the next month or whatever flies by. Tiling is still in progress. Ensuite shower was done yesterday, but given that they hadn't moved the showerhead to overhead, I'm guessing it'll get ripped apart soon to be redirected to the ceiling. I think they were doing the main bathroom today. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1120Oct 11, 2012 5:09 pm Smorgzzz we made the feature wall the largest and most difficult wall to paint - double storey height, which will require scaffolding! We have a caravan so some of them will be coming back in there, or there would be no room for the kids. They have been so noisey this holiday, that at least if they stayed here we would get some peace on the way home. I didnt even think about mitred corners to the waterfall ends. Tracey didnt mention it either, I expected that that is how it is done. I will be making sure that this is done. Did they ask you to specify how you want the grain of the wood to go on the cupboards? We are looking forward to the ice from the fridge. I am too lazy to make ice blocks, but a fridge that makes them for you, will be a great novelty. We give ice to the dogs, always good for a laugh.
