Loos for aliens Re: Greenfish build - cabinet beginnings :D 189Jul 16, 2012 12:59 pm LOL yeah not quite the look I'm after really So I've finally gotten on to contacting companies for the window coverings. I opted to organise this as the company kb normally use only do basic things and I want some nice ones for the living room - am thinking cellular/honeycomb for the bottom layer. Anyway, have called two companies for quotes (have used both previously in my current house) and boy am I glad I called them now. Lead time is 5-6 weeks!! Would hate to move in and not have window coverings and have to go the poor uni student look with blankets stuck up on the windows!! Drove past the block today, quite a few cars there, not sure whose they are but kids were being painful so I couldn't be bothered getting out to see. I heard back from my builder. The powder room cabinet was made too large, they are going to fix that. Also the cross on my living room floor is here to stay I had suspected as much, but still disappointing to hear it. Apparently they 'think' it was caused from the blades on the trowelling machine back when the concrete was laid. The polisher has allegedly tried to grind them out, but would need to dint my floor to remove them, not so keen on that!! Looks like my floor is going to have many 'character' aspects. Forgot to say that late last week the window which had those strange bead things in it got replaced Re: Greenfish build - cabinet beginnings :D 190Jul 16, 2012 5:41 pm Cellular blinds- do you actually need them for insulating? I had an idea yours were similar to double glazed?? They are a lovely soft look though. Recently saw a pic of some on either BHG or Houzz site- cellular blinds with a very faint leaf pattern. Very noice, I likee!! Didn't know they were now doing them with different fabrics... I guess it would be too much to get that part of the floor resurfaced or "filled"? Otherwise, like you say, it just adds character. Your floor has "the X factor " That's great that your windows were replaced Re: Greenfish build - cabinet beginnings :D 191Jul 16, 2012 8:45 pm Treeseachanger Cellular blinds- do you actually need them for insulating? We do have double glazed - and argon filled, thermally broken - but the more you have the better. I also like the look, and think they soften up a room nicely, would look better then drapes. The highlight windows will be motorised hollands as that seems to be all they can motorise around here. Would love to get a patterned fabric - especially leafy or treeish - but doubt budget will allow. One quote I got back today was a bit ridiculous, not the company I want to go with anyway, so fingers crossed the other company come back better priced. I don't think 'filling' the floor is a possibilty, as for 'X' factor I was thinking more along the lines that I could say we had buried a time capsule and X marks the spot Re: Greenfish build - cabinet beginnings :D 192Jul 16, 2012 8:53 pm What do cellular blinds look like? And what insulation do they have? We are about to start thinking about window coverings (a bit late) and the insulation reference caught my attention! Fold up completely flat, so front on, they look a little concertina like. The air that they hold in the honeycomb is what helps the insulation effect Re: Greenfish build - cabinet beginnings :D 196Jul 16, 2012 9:03 pm thanks GF and GG (short for the very long name gogo hm, only I am laughing). Anyway - I understand now. DH is keen on those flat blinds that roll up to the top, but I am fearful they will be very expensive... GF - I will be interested to hear what sort of quote you get on yours... GG - what sort of window coverings are you doing? They are about the cheapest thing you can go. Going by my quote Cellular blinds are more expensive then lined, blockout drapes - and the drapes are on MUCH bigger windows Re: Greenfish build - cabinet beginnings :D 198Jul 16, 2012 9:07 pm Was the quote for Luxaflex blinds? I had a quote once for a Luxaflex product and nearly choked! They are about the cheapest thing you can go. I don't think they are Holland blinds. Or maybe a fancy version of them? My MIL has them in her house and DH wants the same, but they have a vveeeerrrryy different budget to us, which is why I am not optimistic.
