Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 02, 2009 11:32 am Hi I know window colours are only a part of the overall colour choices, but can you tell me which colours you have or will have from the 3 listed? Please choose one, but if your first preference isn't here then also list your preference. Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: Window Colours - Help 6Apr 02, 2009 12:14 pm If I may say so, WELL DONE Wonderland! So many people pick their window colours from the outside of the house, and then get inside to see that they have black window frames and white window architraves and green curtains was their choice! As I explained in another post, window colour will actually affect your facade design. For homes with walls of glass, any colour preference will do. But for a smaller home, with many smaller windows in the front facade, the more contrast of the frame to the brick, the more obvious the size and shape of your windows. Many years ago (20 or so but who's counting) I was one of the first designers to introduce black window frames to project homes because we were using some dark brown brick colours. The opposition from builders was huge! (to say the least). But I designed a small community of 30 houses in Sydney's west (one of the first community developments) and in order to reduce the effect of the many small houses, on then 500sq m small blocks, so close to each other I had to play with the colour and tonal value of bricks, roof tiles and windows. That’s why I have such an opinion! So my choice of colour unfortunately would depend on the home. But having said that it may help you to know that I remember a long running Laminex Industry study many years ago on consumer colour preferences, that proved the main colour of kitchen benches and door colours were; cream, white, off white, parchment, linen, champagne, fawn, of and did I mention cream, white, off white, parchment, linen, champagne, fawn, yep not much difference in the top 20 most sold colours. These days consumers are a bit more confident thanks to CHANGING ROOMS, but many are still very timid and cautious. Pinkladyloo Re: Window Colours - Help 7Apr 02, 2009 12:19 pm Mine is greyish-silver. Picked it cos' we were having grey in and out of the house. [sneakersss] Re: Window Colours - Help 8Apr 02, 2009 12:24 pm Ours are 'Metro Silver' for all aluminium windows and the bifolds. We do have timber windows on the facade. Silver matches well with the bluish bricks and will go well inside against white architraves and walls. that is the theory anyway! I would much prefer to go lighter colours, as with aluminium you see the colour on the inside, and black is not the right colour and feel I want for my home! If I could afford to have timber windows, then they'd be painted paperbark on the outside and gloss white on the inside to match the skirts and archs. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Thanks Pinkladyloo!! Lucky for us, we are having timber windows to our facade, so it shouldnt clash too much. We thought a light/silver colour for windows and bi-folds match more with our whitetish colour theme, black would be abit too strong for the inside. Are your architraves and skirtings stained timber? what about the internal doors, front door? Re: Window Colours - Help 14Apr 02, 2009 1:19 pm I'd choose silver, because we are having a grey theme and I'm not a huge fan of black. We have however chosen Woodland Grey. Re: Window Colours - Help 15Apr 02, 2009 1:24 pm I selected beige as I have marino with the tones of our current house. Our first builders put marino at the front, then beige/cream at the back that I did not identify until I went to have security doors fitted a few months later and they didn't match. Tricky little buggers! I like the look from the outside and the inside. I'd probably never use black or white or beige - only because I wouldn't pick bricks to go with those choices. Silver would be one I would use though Happy at Home Re: Window Colours - Help 18Apr 02, 2009 1:54 pm I don't have any of these, and a lot of our windows & doors are timber, but if UI could have anything I would have commercial aluminium windows & doors...so I picked silver. Are your architraves and skirtings stained timber? what about the internal doors, front door? Thanks The front facade windows and doorframes are stained timber, internally and externally. We are having 2 x timber front doors, stained internally & externally. Our architraves, skirtings and internal doors are going to be painted white (the colour of our ceiling) as we are having timber flooring inside and i didnt want TOO much timber IYKWIM? Our walls are in a light shade of grey, to match our silver windows. Hopefully it all comes together, only time will tell i suppose.
