Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Apr 23, 2019 3:18 pm I currently have aggregate concrete in my Alfresco and patio. The wife is not a big fan. I was wondering what are the options available to change this flooring: 1) Put tiles over it : Pros: Look and Feel Cons: Potentially slippery and will increase the height of the flooring 2) Put filler in Pros: Cheaper Cons: Not sure how will it affect the look. Also will it get rid fo the aggregate part of the concrete completely? The are is about 45m2. I was just looking for some options/suggestions in the forum. Re: Exposed aggregate concrete removal options 2Apr 23, 2019 3:23 pm Depending on what it is that your wife doesn't like you could get it honed. That way you retain the same look but have a smooth surface that can be swept up and cleaned much easier than washed agg. Also the chances of kid getting injured while playing on it. What exactly is honing? Re: Exposed aggregate concrete removal options 4Apr 23, 2019 11:01 pm Honing is the process of grinding the concrete smooth. It will look like the exposed agg (same concrete colour and stone colours) but will be nice and smooth. If you keep using finer diamonds for the grind you end up with polished concrete. Honed is great for outdoor areas because it's smooth but is nonslip because it hasn't been highly polished. If you budget $60 per metre. May even get it cheaper. If you're handy you could hire a floor grinder for the weekend and do it yourself. There are specialist concrete hire shops that can give you all the advice. For probably $500 hire fee including sealer you can do it yourself.
