Basin taps - tap bonnet doesn't reach the countertop

I've just replaced some lever taps in my bathroom sink...after installing the new ceramic spindles and tightening the lock nut, I went to screw the new tap bonnets on...and realised they don't reach all the way down to the marble benchtop. That's when I realised the old taps had little chrome extenders under the bonnets...but they don't fit my new bonnets. I tried putting the old bonnets and extenders on but they don't even reach the bottom. Must be the spindles are longer or something?

Can you buy higher extenders for under these bonnets or have I done something wrong here?

that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink
