Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 10, 2015 3:35 pm Hi! Just after some opinions. My first build I had the standard sliding door to the outside and my current house has this also. I think its rather wasted myself as my stacked washing machine/dryer sit next to it and blocks it anyway. Plus its just another area that seems to attract fluff! Do you have something different and are you happy with it? I'm leaning towards a door and half height window similar to this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Laundry door to outside. 2May 10, 2015 4:07 pm That's how I did my laundry door, solid core door with window half height. Like in that photo there's a window next to it. Never liked the idea of sliding glass doors in a laundry. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Laundry door to outside. 4May 10, 2015 4:46 pm I would go for similar to your photo which is what we had in our last house. I can't see how it would be an insurance problem since a slider is glass anyway. Re: Laundry door to outside. 6May 10, 2015 5:43 pm Cheers guys! That's exactly the set up I was thinking of Yvonneh! Does it look good from the inside? I can't see how it would be an insurance problem since a slider is glass anyway. It's easier, and quieter, to break a small glass window than a large one. (having said that it can be quite easy to break into a sliding glass door) I think it's important for rear doors to be as burglar resistant as front doors. Most burglars will know its going to be easier and less visible to get in through the back door for the typical house so its up to you to make it harder for them. (Told you i didn't have a good photo) And pre-paint Re: Laundry door to outside. 9May 11, 2015 4:47 pm This will be ours. We have ours done in powdercoated aluminium same as windows, with translucent glass. I have something similar in timber in my current house. The only time the door got opened was when i wanted extra venting of the dryer. Positive to ours is that even if i don't use it at least it will let in light. Laundry door to outside. 10May 11, 2015 4:52 pm Thanks for the photos! Initially I wanted much like yours gandn but was quoted $1600 for the upgrade. Since I'll put a security screen on it the door doesn't really matter that much! I do like your door yvonneh, that will at least let some more light in! Re: Laundry door to outside. 11May 12, 2015 8:14 am You can also get the one where they have an inbuilt blind in the glass bit. For us the only thing you can see looking in is the laundry and possibly the dogs. And we wanted the light. And we wanted to keep it as standard as possible. The included was the glass sliding door. So wasn't that standard in the end! Re: Laundry door to outside. 13May 30, 2015 8:35 pm My current house has a solid door with the window right next to it. I am going for sliding, lots of light, and I love the idea of not having the door slam shut on me when I have an armful of washing (like our current door does!), plus will take up less room in the laundry not having a swing door.. but biggest reason for me is that I will have a cat enclosure down the entire side of the house, with a patio pet door in the laundry sliding door, so cats will have access to outside at all times, but be secure. Re: Laundry door to outside. 14Jun 02, 2015 7:10 am The sliding door and in our case dog for was the issue. We use to have to squeeze past to use our door because of the dog door... Hence we prefer the swing door Just in case you want another point of view Move your linen into laundry and access laundry from your present linen space 1 8017 920 was enough to get the furniture in. We live in a pretty safe area and it’s great to see people walking to the front door. We’re not too fussed about people… 4 1247 Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4097 |
